I came across these security fittings the other day and thought these would make it harder for the little tw@ts to nick my lamps.

There M6 x 20mm and have a 4mm pinned hex head

Any opinions

The trouible with that is that if they can't nick, they'll most likely just break them, so either way, you lose your lights!

Look a good idea to stop the opportunist thief.

Fair point Ron but thought it might hamper the opportunist

A full set of security bits is available freely at most DIY stores cheap. Requires forethought on the part of the thief. Or, if they can't have 'em, they'll break 'em and damage paintwork in the process

I'd be interested in a set, could you post where you found them ?

I agree with them snapping a standard lamp off but they'd struggle to break the metal bracket that hold my PIAA's in place.

they'd make a very nasty mess trying tho. Sorry if this is sounding really negative, but I've seen the results of someone using security screws on an ice install, and it was a right mess

Chiark,
I agree that an idiotic thief will make a mess trying to nick something he really wants.
However, anything that slows the opportunist thief down (or puts them off all together) only increases your chance of catching them in the act, and that isn't good for their health (if you know what I mean )

I agree with what you are saying Chiark , I am fitting a set of PIAA's next week and was going to use them. And yes you can buy security type drivers etc from many a diy shop but I'm sure they would deter all but the determined and theres not much you can do to stop them.
ScoobyTowers drop me an email and I'll sort u a set out.
