I have a std (ish) 1998 UK turbo car, apart from Green Filter, Rear Exhaust box and am thinking of fitting a decat downpipe, no other mods... (apart from tank of Optimax)

Is it worth me getting a knocklink for my motor? or is it for highly modified motors? I don't drive mine that hard really, and never above 7,000rpm....

What does a boost guage show and is it worth having one of these?

I just don't want to blow my engine up!
Matt.

6k rpm is plenty in your car - power starts to drop off after this i find.

I just don't want to blow my engine up!
...And that's the whole point of devices like the KnockLink. They give you confidence that your engine is running within safe/correct parameters, so you can be as sure as possible that it's not about to spontaneously combust.

Or, looking at it the other way, devices like this can give you warning of otherwise undetectable conditions that could cause your engine serious damage if left unchecked.

With a bog standard (or lightly modified) engine, there's less risk of knock than there is on another running loads of boost, but there's still a risk due to failing airflow meters and suchlike, so if you want to be sure, a KL is a worthwhile investment.

Similarly, a good boost gauge will alert you to conditions like blocked/faulty boost solenoids, or peaking caused by decats or blocked actuator restrictors.

He can only go above 3000 when the flux capacitator's working at 110% efficiency. Anything less than that and the structural integrity field's all over the place.
