I don't understand that comment about sanity.
Personally I achieved my top speed runs in places where it is legal to do so. THe car was in tip-top condition and what with it being a high(ish) performance car I'd say that it would be INSANE to own one and drive it like a vicar in a Sdi Polo.

Touchy touchy Nacro, old boy! Anyway, how did you know that I am in fact a vicar with an SDi Polo?
To be honest, I just thought that it was starting to go along the lines of "my k**b's bigger than yours!

nah.......I think we all just want to share the joy with the rest of the community!
As we are all mostly Impreza, or ex-Impreza owners it's interesting to see what the different models can do. Well interesting to me anyway.

It's a well known fact that the priesthood think of nothing else but kn*bs, thus why they have that "kiddie fiddler" reputation.

In any case, flooring it on a long, straight, wide motorway (oops, sorry, private test track) is hardly a test. Try doing the same thing on a rutted, unsurfaced road that's barely wider than your car and we'll see how much bottle you've got!

was the plane made by Subaru?
edited to add: it's not about ***** or anything else to do with genitalia. It's about finding out what the cars can do. If you don't want to participate in the thread then don't- and don't bother making negative comments!

Nacro, the thread could just as likely be about whose speedometer over-reads by the greatest amount. The only way to find out what these cars will really do is either to put proper timing gear on them or measure over a fixed distance. As you say yourself, you're really only guessing...

I agree totally- my speedo read 160mph+ and I don't believe that for a minute.
I was hoping we'd get some people with reliable data on here sharing it with the rest of us. As opposed to crappy comments about being insane et al.

Its not about showing off, my car is standard WRX so I'm hardly trying to give it large about the top end!
Just wanted to know what all your cars were capable of doing.

I only said vicar cos Andy said "how did you guess i'm a vicar" don't mean to label Andy as a vicar or anything.. Sorry
As for this thread... its been done a hundred times over and always ends as "My dads Bigger Than Yours"
Whatever info is put on these threads isn't always true so to compare its best to compete and find out. or goto trackdays and see the guys pushing their scoobies to the limit

No- no fight at all, it's all good natured surely?
My motivations in posting on the thread were similar to the topic starter- to find out what different iterations of the car can do. Do you think anyone here is sad enough to think a higher top speed somehow garners them more respect?
Re the sanity comments quote: "a note of sanity at last"- that would tend to suggest that the topic lacked sanity don't you think?
Anyone with any real data care to contribute for the benefit of those not in th know. For example my real interest is in what the true top speed of a classic turbo is. I'm aware the speedo isn't accurate and don't have access to timing gear or the opportunity to top end my car easily. I'm hoping someone on here will know what it can really do.
I'm also sure this has been covered before but perhaps those that feel it's old hat can let us noobies to the subject discuss it without flaming us!

Think the book says 143.9, but in practice, there will be considerable variation.
For starters you can't lump all the "classic turbos" in one group, not even the UK ones. The variation in engine specification over the years makes slight differences in performance inevitable.
Add in the amount of use the engine has had, whether you're talking about Bruntingthorpe or a long downhill straight, which way the wind is blowing, etc. etc. etc, and it soon becomes apparent that judging the true top speed of these cars is only slightly easier than knowing how long a piece of string is...

greasemonkey when you put it like that I see exactly what you mean.
I'm still interested to know what people have got though!
edited to add: the 143mph bit is what interests me- that would suggest my speedo is 17mph out!

To be honest I can't remember the absolute top I have seen on the speedo. I think it was about 240kmh = 150mph. Car was remapped during Tek3 to new top speed of 154mph according to the ecu speed sensor. Car is an MY99 classic.
