Standard MY02 WRX got 149MPH to date.

Please note this was done on private land.

NACRO 16 October 2003 12:32 PM

Scooby ECU'd MY96 Phase 1 Impreza- Needle off the clock and speed still increasing.

Guess at above 145mph- speed was achieved in appopriate conditions

Franko 16 October 2003 12:41 PM

Jap Import MY98 achieved 160mph needle not in red and still going strong.

rb5 286 16 October 2003 01:08 PM

non wr sport RB5, hks full decat system and d/p, pipercross cone filter

IN THE STICKS 16 October 2003 01:26 PM

MY99 71mph on the M1 I did keep a sharp eye out for police cars ...then I backed off down to 70 .

Andrewj 16 October 2003 01:34 PM

Excellent, Dave...a note of sanity at last.

CTRnutter 16 October 2003 01:37 PM

STI-8 PPP with HKS Straight Through and took it up to 150 mph and it felt like it was pulling strong but i think they are limited to 155

NACRO 16 October 2003 01:38 PM

I don't understand that comment about sanity.

Personally I achieved my top speed runs in places where it is legal to do so. THe car was in tip-top condition and what with it being a high(ish) performance car I'd say that it would be INSANE to own one and drive it like a vicar in a Sdi Polo.

Andrewj 16 October 2003 02:12 PM

Touchy touchy Nacro, old boy! Anyway, how did you know that I am in fact a vicar with an SDi Polo?

To be honest, I just thought that it was starting to go along the lines of "my k**b's bigger than yours!

NACRO 16 October 2003 02:15 PM

nah.......I think we all just want to share the joy with the rest of the community!

As we are all mostly Impreza, or ex-Impreza owners it's interesting to see what the different models can do. Well interesting to me anyway.

Franko 16 October 2003 02:15 PM

Bein a vicar how did you start thinking of k**b? when the rest are thinking of mph... :D

NACRO 16 October 2003 02:25 PM

It's a well known fact that the priesthood think of nothing else but kn*bs, thus why they have that "kiddie fiddler" reputation.

Disclaimer: Of course I'm only joking.

greasemonkey 16 October 2003 02:59 PM

To be honest, I just thought that it was starting to go along the lines of "my k**b's bigger than yours!
Yes, either that or "My balls are bigger than yours!". I fail to understand why anyone who goes out of their way not to participate in silly threads like this is characterised as a vicar in a Polo or similar. Could simply mean they've got a bit more common sense and regard for the longevity of their driving licence.

In any case, flooring it on a long, straight, wide motorway (oops, sorry, private test track) is hardly a test. Try doing the same thing on a rutted, unsurfaced road that's barely wider than your car and we'll see how much bottle you've got! ;)

Paul Woodward 16 October 2003 03:09 PM

I did 540mph the other day so I'm the best (I was in a plane though).

NACRO 16 October 2003 03:16 PM

was the plane made by Subaru?

edited to add: it's not about balls or anything else to do with genitalia. It's about finding out what the cars can do. If you don't want to participate in the thread then don't- and don't bother making negative comments!

greasemonkey 16 October 2003 03:21 PM

Nacro, the thread could just as likely be about whose speedometer over-reads by the greatest amount. The only way to find out what these cars will really do is either to put proper timing gear on them or measure over a fixed distance. As you say yourself, you're really only guessing...

NACRO 16 October 2003 03:26 PM

I agree totally- my speedo read 160mph+ and I don't believe that for a minute.

I was hoping we'd get some people with reliable data on here sharing it with the rest of us. As opposed to crappy comments about being insane et al.

MY STI 03 16 October 2003 03:30 PM

159 on the clock and limiter kicked in!
Have since had the limiter removed, watch this space!

iDLe* 16 October 2003 03:34 PM

Its not about showing off, my car is standard WRX so I'm hardly trying to give it large about the top end!

Just wanted to know what all your cars were capable of doing.

greasemonkey 16 October 2003 03:35 PM

As opposed to crappy comments about being insane et al.
Erm, you were the first person to use the word insane on this thread old boy, and as for crappy comments, don't you think the vicar and Polo one was a trifle unwarranted? ;)

Franko 16 October 2003 03:37 PM

I only said vicar cos Andy said "how did you guess i'm a vicar" don't mean to label Andy as a vicar or anything.. Sorry ;)

As for this thread... its been done a hundred times over and always ends as "My dads Bigger Than Yours"

Whatever info is put on these threads isn't always true so to compare its best to compete and find out. or goto trackdays and see the guys pushing their scoobies to the limit :D

Swany STI 5 16 October 2003 04:00 PM

165 in a version 5 type r with a modified 5th gear!

Andrewj 16 October 2003 04:05 PM

Think I've started a fight!

I'll get my coat and attend to my flock.

Pax vobiscum.

NACRO 16 October 2003 04:11 PM

No- no fight at all, it's all good natured surely?

My motivations in posting on the thread were similar to the topic starter- to find out what different iterations of the car can do. Do you think anyone here is sad enough to think a higher top speed somehow garners them more respect?

Re the sanity comments quote: "a note of sanity at last"- that would tend to suggest that the topic lacked sanity don't you think?

Anyone with any real data care to contribute for the benefit of those not in th know. For example my real interest is in what the true top speed of a classic turbo is. I'm aware the speedo isn't accurate and don't have access to timing gear or the opportunity to top end my car easily. I'm hoping someone on here will know what it can really do.

I'm also sure this has been covered before but perhaps those that feel it's old hat can let us noobies to the subject discuss it without flaming us!

Franko 16 October 2003 04:15 PM

All good natured as always :D

greasemonkey 16 October 2003 05:56 PM

For example my real interest is in what the true top speed of a classic turbo is.
There's no one single accurate answer to this question.

Think the book says 143.9, but in practice, there will be considerable variation.

For starters you can't lump all the "classic turbos" in one group, not even the UK ones. The variation in engine specification over the years makes slight differences in performance inevitable.

Add in the amount of use the engine has had, whether you're talking about Bruntingthorpe or a long downhill straight, which way the wind is blowing, etc. etc. etc, and it soon becomes apparent that judging the true top speed of these cars is only slightly easier than knowing how long a piece of string is... :)

NACRO 16 October 2003 06:20 PM

greasemonkey when you put it like that I see exactly what you mean.

I'm still interested to know what people have got though!

edited to add: the 143mph bit is what interests me- that would suggest my speedo is 17mph out!

Suresh 16 October 2003 06:39 PM

To be honest I can't remember the absolute top I have seen on the speedo. I think it was about 240kmh = 150mph. Car was remapped during Tek3 to new top speed of 154mph according to the ecu speed sensor. Car is an MY99 classic.

Road was a German autobahn before any do-gooder whacks me with his bible! :D
