As a newbie, I hate to ask about this as you lot have prob been over this loads.
Have a 94 wrx import and run normal unleaded...(can I hear gasps?)
Dealer recommended super, but said it could be run on normal stuff.
Seems fine so far, revs right to red line (when I feel that need!) no probs and has done for 3 months.
Have I just been lucky and am I taking a major risk?

Jap Imports

Get some Optimax into its tank mate. I wouldn't risk it not even once, Think you have been lucky. You should also find it will go better on Optimax as Well.

if its been remapped to run on uk fuel that might be the case!
super unleaded or optimax and octane booster if no remap i thinks!

Wouldnt run an import on anything other than Optimax.

I even run my UK on at least SUL

Normal unleaded!?

Last time I drove a WRX with normal unleaded it pinked at 6000rpm+ (that's how I found out it had UL instead of SUL).

I wouldn't reccomend you run it to the redline, - unless you want a melted piston.

Hmm maybe normal UL isn't such a good idea then.
Dont get me wrong, It very rarely gets red-lined,
trundles around town most of the time at under
3,000 rpm!

IN THE STICKS

Try a search on here on blown engines etc, I think you will find Jap imports need SUL and perhaps Octaine booster
