...And of course the irony is that if you'd told your mates 10-12 years ago that you were thinking of buying a Subaru, you'd have got exactly the same reaction!
10 years ago they would have probably said "Didnt they finish 3rd in World Rally Champions"
Now if you had said 8 years ago they would have probably said "Arent they World Rally Champions"
Yep you are probably right knowing my mates they would have said a what, who makes them ??
Things were Q car-ish back then, when the company car driver didnt know what a Subaru was and didnt appear on their pick list

Well said lads - driving a (quick) Skoda is EXACTLY like it was when I got my first Subaru(a Legacy Turbo) in early 95.
Most people laughed, slagged them off or just said 'a what ?'
By my 5th Subaru, everyone other driver knew what I was driving.
With my first Skoda (sorry, Audi 4x4) I have the fun again of watching the shock followed by disbelief on the face of the latest driver to try and mount the back bumper as a huge gap suddenly opens up.
The bit about parts prices is also true - they're Audi components but generally about half the price of the Impreza's were.
Time to throw out the old prejudices

I remember Marshalling on the RAC/Lombard (sic) Rally back in the mid eighties. Skodas were cool with the rally crowd then, Quattros were king and Subarus/Mitsis hadn't been invented. The only thing That bothers me is that it needs Skoda to be bought by a German company for them to be taken seriously.
