****

glad your other half and kid are alright.

To be perfectly honest , I'd never of thought of owning a scoob unless i had a garage. (which is alarmed up to **** and also has another car parked on the drive blocking the garage)

however , for some houses its impossilble to have a garage, so outside , or on a drive it has to be.

We all work hard to afford nice cars and things , but I think if i'd been in the same situation I'd have probably done the same , but not thinking about my car, just my wife and child.

If they want your car that bad let them have it, I'm sure you pay an extortionate amount in insurance as we all do, and it can be replaced.

As regards as wether to keep it or not is your choice, personally one event like that would be enough for me to sell it.

hope your all well and the B@stards get whats coming to them

Phil

" Tough on crime, tough on the causes of crime!" Doesn't ring true now does it?

Glad they didn't get in and attack your family, must have been pretty terrifying. Hope the police don't take you to court for possibly endangering the crims. by resisting! Perhap's you frightened them!

Kippax,

sure I'm sure.

Are you calling me a pu55y?
If you read my posts you'll see that I was down there to face them when they came calling.
If they were already in the house and armed I'd give them my keys. Whats the point of not. Just so you can at best go to hospital with some nasty injuries, or at worst not go anywhere again.
If you think you can take on a bunch of armed men then good luck to you.

What I'm saying to ignore is the 'if you sell it they win' brigade. If your family are constantly worried and can't sleep etc. then the scr0tes have already 'won' so the best way to retake some of that ground is to flog the cause of the trouble and make your family feel happier and more secure.

Whats the point of having your family living in fear just so you can have a rally repmobile out the front.
If your family are ok still then fair enough keep hold for a while if you want.

Its a little different than someone pushing in a queue really.

If you value a car above your family then I pity your family but I'm guessing you are a single bloke cos I can't see anyone with a family not understanding this?

unfortunately, wives and kids need to learn to fight against this sort of ****.
get serious mate

Unhappy

It's been a week or so since this happened but I've only just got round to posting this here.

2 O'clock in the morning, I am upstairs asleep with the wife and 4 month old baby, other baby parked outside on the drive! Suddenly, there is a major bang...and another..and another...by this point I've shot down the stairs and arrived at the front door to find the glass in the door in the process of being kicked in. The glass goes in and I see 2 guys in balaclavas who I started screeming and yelling at...but they carried on, whilst yelling abuse at me (don't know what they were saying because I couldn't hear over my own voice). The door is still being battered every couple of seconds or so, in between which I am trying to kick and punch through the broken glass (serious adrenaline at this point)After what was probably no more than about 30-40 seconds of constant pounding, I decided that they weren't going and the next kick on the door would cave it in so i stepped back and closed the inner front door to give me a few extra seconds...and everything stopped. They obviously decided that enough was enough. I take a look at the door and realise it's covered in blood..and so was the carpet..and the floor..and the sofas near where I was now standing and realised it was coming from me. I'd got major wounds to my fingers and forearm where I'd been punching through the glass and suspected there was glass embedded in there - found out later on in casualty that there was and had some of it removed.

Next my wife comes down the stairs holding a crying baby who'd been woken up by the banging and shouting. By this point the whole neighbourhood is up and a neighbour pops round to see if we're OK. It transpiresd that there were 5 guys in balaclavas - not 2, and both my wife and the next door neighbour had been yelling at them out of the bedroom windows to 'go away'. They had been told in no uncertain terms to stay in f***ing bed or they'd get hurt. The police turn up 15 mins later and take a few details and we've not heard since but all they did say was that they were after car keys.

What I still can't believe is 1. that it happened at all (it's still v. surreal) and 2. what the hell were they going to do to me if they'd got that door in??? My wife still gets tearful when she thinks about what could potentially have happened to the baby.

I am well chuffed that they didn't get anything or even abuse the car out of frustration but I'm left torn between whether I should 1. not let these mindless b******s spoil my love for the scoob or 2. get a better nights sleep by getting rid and getting something less 'attractive' to thieves.

Either way, my hatred for these idiots is now multiplied and god knows what I would do if I ever got hold of 1 (preferrably not with 4 accomplices)

NB This happened in a respectable part of Warrington, not really known for much crime!

Sorry to hear this happened to you mate
Your right in thinking of your family before your car and well done in standing up for yourself and backing off when you realised it was getting dangerous.

I wouldn't know what to do.
To sell the car and give in to scumbags like them or to keep it and hope they never return.
However its not just scoobies thieves are breaking into houses for.

Hope you get back to the norm very soon.

All the best

Pleaesd to hear you're OK ,this sort of sh*t is not just aimed at Scooby owners , so don't bin the car just yet . Have you thought about the blak jax (car cuts out after a short while even if they've got the keys)thingy .Beef up the house security a bit (lots of noise may scare off the scum ) and perhaps put a wireless pir from the house alarm in the car .

Cheers guys

To be honest there is usually another car parked behind the scoob but not this night unfortunately. As for making noise - the banging was enough to wake the neighbourhood and then the panic alarm on the house was triggered and lots of people were shouting - nothing was stopping these guys - unbelieveable I know.
Stupid thing was when I first got to the door I was excpecting them to see me and go running and I actually wanted the door open so that I could grab the bu**ers - but when they stay there and carry on in your face it changes your perspective a bit!

The keys were nowhere visible and I often struggle to find them in the morning so god knows what would have happened if they'd said 'keys to the Subaru NOW'. I would have had to have said - I'm really sorry mate but you'll have to have a good look yourself because I haven't got a clue where they are!! LOL I'm sure a severe beating probably would have followed. It's really mad when i think about what could have happened - thankfully it didn't!!

when i first got my scoob , I used to hide the keys or take them upstairs, but now i leave them in the living room as I dont want my other half to have to deal with me and other people fighting in our bedroom in the early hours. If they can get in , get the keys and get away in my car quick enough , then all i have to do is wait for the tracker company to get in touch and for me to ring the police.

If i get down stairs before they get away, then they're in for a suprise.

glad to hear your ok, and dont let them ruin a good nights kip

The sad fact of life is that its not your male ego in this, and the fact you can cope, but the rest of the family.

We lost our Scooby whilst in bed asleep. My 4 year old hasnt been 100% about going to sleep without someone upstairs since. The 8yr old has been fine. There is a big issue of them trying again in a few months.

After a second break in in our vilage, I got rid. I'm still gutted after all the Scoobies Ive owned, but the wife and kids come first. Looking for the perfect Q car now.

I live near the Prime Ministers weekend home in sunny Bucks, in an area that is fairly crime free. I only know of two car thefts in the vilage, and both have been Scoobies.

I'd love to give comforting words on this, but dont feel able. Hope the family get over it without lasting memories.

What is this fecking country coming too!!
Someone needs to sort these type of people out, its becoming far too easy for them to just getaway with this sort of stuff.
We would all love to take on a Charles Bronson or Tony Martin approach but you end up the one getting done for it.
The police/Gov needs to get there act together on crime and deal with the scum.
I am glad you are all ok but I wouldn't risk your family over a car, its sad that this happens over a bloody car, and its not just scoobies this affects..

Look after yourself

This was and still is a big talking point when we were thinking of buying a scoob i also bought the wife a second car so she didn't have to cope with the hijack situation it's sad when you need to take such precautions but it's the times we all live in i suppose. Our car is at safe at home as it can be at home and is protected in all the USUALL ways and some unusual ones too but if faced with 5 blokes in my house demanding my keys cos the can't be arsed to work and save up for one like most people i'd give em the keys.Fair play to ya mate for fighting for whats yours but like you said once their inside things are different.Have to say also i delayed buying my scoob for 2 months untill i'd finished building the garage for it don't think i'd be completely happy with it just on the drive.

Really sorry you had to go through that mate, but very relieved that your wife and baby are okay.

Scum like that should be terrorised themselves, then hurt.

Deepest sympathies...

Hope the wounds heal quickly, and that you don;t have to go through an ordeal like that ever again.

The law is never on your side when this sort of thing happens.

Imagine if you had a weapon of some sort near the door (bat, knife, heavy blunt object [other than bat]) and had managed to seriously injure one of the c*nts. Your family would be seeing you through bars.

Keep the car mate - don't let them scare you into selling it, but as one wise member of this bbs said - leave the keys in an easy to find place downstairs so that they don't come upstairs to bother the other loved members of your family.

Sorry that society is deteriorating by the day.

Another one down to Blair and the cronies: there are threads on here almost daily now, about this sort of thing. Scoobs aren't the only car targeted.and all the security in the world is no use under threats like these.

WHEN are the present incompetent lot going to get to grips with what is happening in this country? We need a law that puts these people away, and for a long time, for a first offence. No pussyfooting around: no "they came from broken homes", no "they are victims of drugs" and no other crap. Just a long sentence, first time, every time.

But will the socialists go for it?

Don't hold your breath!

Really sorry to hear the news, well done for giving it back to the f***ers. I also live in Warrington (haven't picked up my scoob yet) so will be increasing security. FYI. I had a friend live near Bold Heath (Widnes) and there was a spate of car thefts in the area, not just expensive cars and it was a well known group from Runcorn (no offence meant to anyone from Runcorn) who where targeting the area. The annoying thing is the police new about the crime and thieves but could do nothing unless they were caught in the act. NOT SO GREAT BRITIAN.

Sorry to hear about what happened - it really is sobering.

However, surely if there are 5 blokes in balaclavas kicking **** out of your front door, you are entirely justified to harm them in some way - if you had a gun and shot them, surely this MUST be in self defence.

I know we have had the Tony Martin case, but this is getting ridiculous - where you are not even safe in your own home. You may as well leave the front door on the latch for them or even the keys in the car, save them reaching the front door.

This country is going down the toilet in some ways - it really does sadden me. I have a 16 month old baby and sometimes I really do wonder what sort of world he is growing up in.

My sympathies are with you and I am v.v. glad you didn't get really hurt.

if you give in they win.
Ignore this kind of comment.

I too had a bunch of balaclava boys trying to get into my patio doors a few months ago. Car was on the drive. Its been in the garage ever since and we feel quite a bit more secure now (plus have installed security lights / padlocks etc.). I reckon the lot that came for ours were chancers and just saw it as they cruised looking for cars. (Cops said they'd had reports of similar car acting suspicioulsy elsewhere that night too). Luckily this lot legged it as I came ploughing downstairs with my steel bar. (I always thought I would be **** scared if someone was going to work on getting into the house but I was straight down there (mainly cos they hadn't got in at that point so I was gonna try to deter them before they did - could have been a different story were they already in)). The old adrenaline eh!

Anyway, if its gonna affect your wife and childs life get rid.

I used to have an evo and couldn't sleep well as that was on the drive (old house didn't have a garage). I'd be up and checking out of the window every time I heard a noise. The day I sold it I started sleeping an awful lot better

You gradually get back to a sense of normality. I couldn't go to sleep before it got light outside for the first week after this.

Bloody outrageous! Trying to knick a car is one thing, trying to violently break into a house when wife/kids are there is a totally different issue. I really hope you are all OK after this experience.

These people are the scum of the earth and people like this will only stop when they genuinely think the prize isn't worth the risk. They have no concept of wrong/right or respect of other people.

As an aside - I'm certainly not for promoting the Tony Martin School of security, but I wonder if they would have thought twice about kicking your front door in, if they had thought for a moment that there was going to be any chance of an once of lead doing 1400fps coming through from the other side, rather than your fist.

I'm well up for the Tony Martin school of security.

Its only that or 10-20 year sentences that are gonna even start to deter these scum.
and 10-20 years should MEAN 10-20 years. Not just a couple and then get out for good behaviour cos the prisons are full. Build more bl00dy prisons.

Some old boy got killed in the Midlands as the car thieves ran him over while he was trying to stop them get away.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/w...ds/3057699.stm
There was a lot of outrage at this 'murder'. I think they got the scum in the end. I think they didn't even get charged with manslaughter! (hopefully I'm wrong but I seem to recall hearing that on the news)

grrr

Why the f**k is the state so soft on this disease???

Really sorry to hear about your real bad experience. I'm just glad you and your family are ok.

The problem is the damn government and these damn leanient judges in the courts!

'It's all about second chances.....' what a laugh. As far as I am concerned people who break the law do so willingly, consiously and of thier own choice, Doesn't matter if they are from a 'Broken home' 'on drugs' or whatever. The chose to break the law and therefore they should reap the consiquences - Which should be stiff penalties!!

If I were the priminister I would make the punishment from crimes like that a Minimun of 5 years in prison + £10k fine, and when I say minimum i mean MINIMUM!!!!

Question

The real question of course, which no-one seems to really know (inc Police?) is, where do all these cars really end up. Yes some are used on robberies etc, yes many are recovered damaged etc. But what about the rest?

We must be talking about many luxury / Hi-performance cars a month each month, going missing in UK. Where are they all?

Well, would that be classed as reasonable force?

I doubt it.

If they came with a gun, and tried to shoot you, but you somehow managed to avoid the spray of bullets and wrestled the gun off of them, and then shot them for self preservation.. then, and only then, might you stand a chance of avoiding a murder / man-slaughter charge.

F*cking ridiculous, but true. Criminals have too many rights in this country. They break into your house, and you break some of their bones. They will be pressing charges... and probably win in a court of law. What kind of law do we have?

Criminals do need harsher sentences. First-time offenders should be punished too. But petty car crime, and out-and-out violent car theft is a whole other matter. This is an extreme case of 5 nutters scaring a guy and his family, and other members of the community sh*tless.

Good job they didn't get in - I would dread to specualte.

What a terrible experience, I hope you and your family can put this behind yo, difficult I imagine.
Five blokes for a Scoob, they didnt wan the car they wanted to use the car. Sounds like they were risking all because they had grander plans.
As far as fighting back, dont forget that they know where you live.
As it is they will steer clear and leave you alone. But had you injured one then it may give some satisfaction at the time, but the long term issue could be much worse.
Its perhaps foolish to leave a Scoob or similar (even Golf GTI's and TT's are targetd) on the drive. Sad but true. Anyway glad you are all ok.
