Question

Agree with Chiark, as long as they were specced for a Scoob, it's down to the wheel place.

Unhappy

A friend of mine has a nice uk turbo my99. he payed 800 ish pounds for a set of wheels from Montys wheels and tyres in Iver,Bucks. he has now realised 2 months down the line that he gets rubbing with passengers in the back or when going over big dips in the road driving singleton. the wheels are 18" and have a 40 offset, the car is not lowered. Montys are not interested, they say they would try and sell the wheels on for him, thats it. does anyone know where he might stand legally.

Not fit for the purpose that they were supplied for.

he was told by a mechanic that his rear springs were sagging, causing the rear to be too low, so it wasnt till he had them replaced and found they were the same as before that he returned to the wheel company. he is also the kinda guy that doesnt like complaining and having any hassles, so he looked at getting the archs rolled as well, but was gonna be costly.

I'm a bit out of touch, what with living abroad and all that, but the Sale of Goods act should apply in that the wheels have to be fit for purpose. Agree that the CAB should be the first port of call.

Good luck!

With less offset it's already too wide, thus it's catching on the outside of the wheel-arch, not the inside or the strut body. Spacers would make it worse.

AFAIK std. offset should be 52 or 53mm. 40mm does sound to be way out unless he's fitting 2CV wheels to it which are much narrower. :-)

If the wheels were also fitted by Montys then I reckon talk to CAB and then take it straight to small claims court after giving Montys a final chance to sort it out properly. More mud in the water if they merely supplied them though.

Vindaloo.
