Finally done it! Been a Scooby owner for 3 months now and after a conversation with a fellow owner only the other week have finally registered!
Anyway, every now and again when Im putting my foot down (usually in 4th + 5th) I get a really nasty kick - as if the engine locks for a split second. Natural reaction is to take the foot off the power and watch the type R or the like sail past - gutting!
The (now closed) Subaru dealers in Widnes had it down as the Wastegate Solenoid, and after an unsuccesful clean it was replaced but to no effect. So 3 months, a clean and a refund later
Im none the wiser.
Can anyone shed any light on this kind of problem, or recommend a local dealer (liverpool/manchester area) who can take a propoer look?
Its a 99V Impreza Turbo - only pre purchase mods were springs and exhaust. Only 43k on the clock...

Cheers Folks
P

Hmmm, a variety of things it could be. Sounds rather like you're getting fuel cut, which is the ECU stopping fuel injection in response to manifold (i.e. boost) pressure going above a safety limit.

When you say you've had the exhaust changed, what exhaust is it, and do you still have any of the catalysts in place? Cat removal can promote boost spiking, which can in extreme circumstances cause fuel cut.

Beyond that, an oil-congested boost solenoid is, as previously suggested, a likely cause, as could be a blocked actuator restrictor.

I'm not as clued up as GM by any means, but if you have any sort of device ,dawes , bleedvalve etc or anything else that will promote high boost levels i think this could also cause fuel cut.

Edited to say , welcome to the skint/2 morgage club

Phil

Cheers GM - The prev owner had the pretty standard magnex exhaust fitted - by Mainland (once of Widnes) - So I'd hope it was pretty normal (ie no cat tweaking)...
So ruling out the Cat and the solenoid - we're heading towards a boost pressure issue re the ECU...Hmmm sounds expensive!!

I'm by no means an expert but I had this a couple of times..

After consulting various sources I was told to check the oil level because apparantly if it is over filled then the reaction can generate the symptoms you have...

I drained mine off to 2/3 of the way between the marks on the dip stick and haven't had the problem since...

Perhaps worth a check as it cost me sweet F A to put it right...

Welcome and I hope you get it sorted.

I changed my standard Dump Valve to an atmospheric one (blitz) and instead of hearing the woosh sound i'd get a HUGE bang from my exhaust.. felt the turbo spool up muuch quicker and xtra boost too.. but then the engine started cuting out at about 50-60mph so i changed the dump valve and everythings fine... this maybe no help to you but just thought to mention as the smallest of mods can cause problems if its not the rite thing.

Hope you get it sorted

Problem was a bleed valve set WAY too high.

How the hell did the dealer miss this?

Maybe a good job they did tho
