Not auto ?

The STi 8's spray is auto.

It cools the air passing through the I/C better than air alone as the specific heat capacity is higher (and the thermal conductivity probably as well)

Sprays the water manually !

There has been a long debate about if the 8's is an auto. All I can say is that on a hot day when driving quickly, my I/C cooler tank level goes down and the I/C nozzel is wet.

Other people have had it go off when stopped due to heat soak too.

The dealer told me that I probably wouldn't need the spray button as it's too ******* cold in Aberdeen

Why do you think the last few JDM Scoobs have had larger and ever-larger water spray tanks? Global warming that is...

Last time I got the I/C spray light coming on, the same debate (auto or not?) was going on here. I filled up the bottle (about 3 litres worth!) and decided to find out for myself - I didn't press the spray switch once during those very hot summer months. Last week, I got the I/C spray light coming on again and again filled up. Moral of the story? In my STi7, it's auto.

There was a post reagrding this some months ago and Mike Wood from prodrive stated that if necessary the water will be automatic on sti7's (debate was before 8's were out) he said something like if needed the water will work automatically

mine certainly does, i keep filling it up and hardly ever use the button.

whether it makes any difference or not is entirely another question

Question

I'd like to know whether the waterspray makes any noticeable difference in performance, or is it just a gimmick on the road going cars?
