Grease monkey help!
I am yet another in need of your wise information! i have put a topic on drive train regards to engine light and i need your help to perhaps sort out what the prob is! iys a 93 import wrx and the light comes on wen i drive the car hard up a steep hill in my area (it also a 70 zone) and wen i tried the top end speed it came on at 140mph so i slowed back down (this was on private property by the way!)
Please help or advise
many thanks or thanks to any1 else who may know!

Could be anything really. I had CEL come on like you have and it was the lambda sensor.
Your ECU stores codes that relate to the part at fault.
You can either get someone with diagnists stuff to see what is wrong or you get look at the ECU errors your self.
Here are some links with instructions:-

cheers hellom8 i will have a nosey. but will mine still have a lambda sensor cause it came into the country with a cat bak jap system an thought they were removed!? where is it located. i the 1st to own the car so cant ask previous owner!
Lambda sensor will be in the downpipe on the back of the Turbo. As you look at your engine, look just under the left hand side of the intercooler - the lambda should be floating around there somewhere
If you look behind the intercooler (driver’s side) you will see the down pipe. The lambda sensor will look vaguely like a spark plug screwed into the down pipe with a wire on the end of it (this is on a MY96 UK Turbo, so might be different to yours).
Other common things to set off CEL are, boost control solenoid and MAF sensor.

The car will need to retain the Lambda regardless of downpipe. I'm not sure if a Jap import will have the same Lambda as my uk but i have just recently put one on mine which cost £115 from the main dealer. Universal ones can be had from Halfords for around £35-40, but a bit of playing with the connectors is required
I'd better just add that before you star replacing bits, you need to check the ecu error codes, as it could be one of a number of things
Follow one of the links HELLOM8 put up and use that as a starting point.
I personally would treat the car very carefully (ie-no boost) until the problem is sorted, because if it is running lean for instance, your engine could go BANG to the tune of £3k

I wouldn't have thought so
If it is that , i personally would want a new one to be safe.
Let us know how you go with the error codes! If you don't fancy the error code thing, i would locate your nearest specialist to sort you out

No need to put my name in the header Tim, there are plenty of other people more than able to help out, as this thread has proved!
Oxygen sensor is aka lambda sensor, and your car definitely will have one.
You've got a couple of options regarding a new one. There are a few dealers that'll supply parts whether you've got a UK car or not. Might be worth giving Mainland Subaru a ring on 0151 495 2091. They're losing their franchise but their parts prices are pretty good, so worth a phone call if nothing else.
You could also try Halfords or any other large motor factors in your area, as their OE spec sensor is probably going to work out cheaper than one in a Subaru box. Halfords also do a "universal" lambda for about £30. You'll have to crimp the old plug onto the end of the wires on this one, but for thirty quid, it might be worth a bit of mucking about.

On your MY93 WRX the Lambda sensor should be in the front headers on the off side front of the car. You can see it if you look underneath the car at the front. You have to remove the heatshield to get it out.
