Ok, first of all let me set the scene.

I was very happy with my R6, blatting down country lanes at silly speeds with a bit of knee down action, but it seems the girlfriend worries too much about death and ****. So, I am selling the bike and want to buy a car that I have always loved and wanted. Now I have about 10 grand to spend but have been offered a 96 WRX STI for around 7 - 7.5 grand. This seems expensive to me, but the info I have from the owner (I dont get to see the car til thursday) is this

1 owner from new
12 months MOT
9000 miles on a new prodrive prepared engine - still 280 bhp and some chip to take it above 300
Brand new front seat (some kind person helped themselves
In the light blue colour

So before viewing it, I need to know what I am looking for. I am adept at maintaining and repairing vehicles (Welding, painting, engine/gearbox rebuilds and just about anything else) but I have no knowlege of the Impreza.

Can someone tell me what to look for, problem areas etc and what the specs of the car should be from standard ie which spoilers and bumpers are fitted, what interior, if it should have air con etc. If anyone has a spec sheet or a URL for this info I would be extremely grateful.

Thanks for any advice given

Wayne.

PS the R6 is for sale for £4500 and is mint!

Seems very odd to have had 1 front seat nicked - was it the drivers seat?

Watch out, new front seat could mean it's had loads of wear and was very shabby. Rather than being nicked, perhaps it's been swapped to help hide it's milage / heavy use.

Wink

Firstly welcome.
Start here first.
Check all the usual things, panel aligment, hidden damage etc.
The link should give you an idea of specific problems that might have effected this model.
Cheers.
Ian.

Exclamation

I would edit your second post. The BBS was shut all day yesterday so there has been very little time for responses. Rubbing people up the wrong way is sure to get you the minimum of response.

I thought it was whale oil anyway

£7000-7500 seems reasonable for a good car with known history. Make sure you budget for running costs and maintenance. 12000 miles of fuel will be £3000 Check whether re-mapped for UK fuel or 100 RON will be necessary etc. etc.

Thanx guys for the advice.

I think it is only the drivers seat that was replaced so I will be looking for the usual carpet wear, pedal rubber wear and the like to see if the mileage looks genuine.

The link is really useful and is exactly what I was looking for. I just wish I had printed it off at work and not home!!Doh!

Many thanks!

Hi m8, sorry to hear about the sad loss of the R6 like myself. Get the car checked out and make sure it was run on optimax and octane booster especially if the chip is a jap chip, they are prone to detting over here when running on a jap spec chip. They are good cars and go a little way to compensate for the loss of the bike (just a little mind)
