Do a search of previous posts on "panel filter". I am just about to fit an ITG panel but Green and K&N are also good filters too.

Glad I looked! I've just took an I.T.G. filter out , I thought the oil on them could mess up the M.A.F. sensor?

an ITG will not mess up a MAF. The correct K&N will not blow up a MAF on a 99-00 car if that's what you have.

Babe, I forgot to take my K&N out of my WRX when i swapped it (DOH!!). So when I checked which filter was in the "new" my/00, with P.P.P. it was an I.T.G. so Swapped it with the scoob original paper filter as it had done 0 miles, till I found out if I.T.G. was ok!

In terms of flow rate, there is almost no difference between the K&N and Green. The advantage these two have over the ITG is that they are very lightly oiled and tend not to coat the MAF sensor with it.

This seems to be a particularly acute issue on the original 99/00 type sensors, where oil contamination often leads to failure. This also seems to apply to the newer cars, as there have been a couple of reports of MAF failure on the 01-02 cars with ITG filters installed. The downside in this case is that the New Age MAF asssembly costs over £320.

Oil coating the MAF sensor would appear to be a problem on all Imprezas that rely on this sensor. Even if the contamination doesn't actually break it, it could still be enough to make the sensor under-read, with undesirable results.

The ITG foam filters rely on the oil to catch and suspend foreign particles. If you just blow the filter off without re-oiling it, you will steadily lose its filtering efficiency and allow more and more muck into the engine, which kinda defeats the object.

ok think i will just clean it then and save £40
Save £40, but at what cost? If I were in your shoes I'd replace with a Green or K&N panel.

I believe TSL did some testing of panel filters & induction kits & the Green filter came out tops.

Greasemonkey, thanks for the informed reply. Think it best if I stick with the subaru original paper element, after all if Prodrive don't change them as part of the P.P.P. they can't be that bad! and they are cheap enough to replace every 3000mls or so.

call TSL they swear by the green panel replacement element - seen in a few tests with standard/upgraded/panel on magazine(bonzai-Jp Performance)that the panel produced better results. Had this confirmed by power engineering as well..thus not going to waste money on an induction kit just because it sounds like Darth Vader with a bad chester when you accelerate then slow.

All personal choice at the end of the day some liek Darth Vader soudns under the bonnet - some dont..teh choice is your and its phone a friend time..

Just orderd a green. I read somewhere in a VW performance mag who tested various filters that green was the best.
Most people who have tested filters come to the same conclusion, that green is the best. I was told that in a test with the original scoob filter, the green gave 35% better filtration.
Either way I don't think it will make a big difference.
