Noticed a rusty bit forming on the front Where there is stone chip. I must get that sorted ASAP. Also noticed that the cushons that hold the boot are showing signs. And this on a 2000 reg Turbo

MY00.
2 smallish blisters below rear window rubber.
Big issue, recently changed my front bumper, and the metal 'rail' that runs the width of the car that the bumper sits on is completely rusted and perforated in several places. Needs to be cut off and replaced, couldn't believe it when I saw it, presumably paint was damaged somehow and nature had a field day!

If you find out, post up details. I've got to arrange a service in the next couple of weeks so I'll ask Cheam Motors then if you haven't found out. Bit fed up, car not had any sort of front end damage, and the bumper had never been taken off.

I have a bit of paint that resembles a spider, but no proper rust spots to my knowlege. Might have to check behind my bumper as it's had a frontal at some point in it's life

When I took mine in to have the centre part of the manifild replaced, they asked me if I lived near the sea! - they said they had never seen such bad corrosion before! so it wasn't just the bit under the bumper, it was all the heat shield around the exhaust. To my knowlege the car has never been in an accident, and was stored for 6 months before I brought it, pehaps it's a fault?

ive had my my96 wrx for over 5 years.. it has a ton of stone chips which (in my laziness ) have gone untreated for a long time (note to self: must sort them), but no signs of rust at all. im impressed!

My wife's MY99 was recently in a front end accident.
Looking at the damage I noticed extensive (and I mean extensive)corrosion behind the front bumper and it had never had any damge there before. Maybe we can see a pattern forming here.

Have the cars with the rusty 'behind bumper sections' had the body services carried out as specified?
I would imagine that the body service quality can vary from garage to garage and even the engineer doing the work.

The bumper hangers are a problem area because capillary action will encourage water to "stick" in the small gaps between the hanger and the plastic bumper, giving it extra time to attack the paintwork, even when the bulk of the car is bone dry.
The water gets an additional helping hand by the fact that the paint here is usually pretty thin, and the fixings allow the bumper to "float" slightly. This constant movement tends to wear the paint, giving the dreaded corrosion even further opportunities to get stuck into the metal.
I don't profess to know whether the bumpers are removed and the metalwork checked as part of the anticorrosion warranty inspections (I suspect not given that the rears, especially are a pain in the butt to remove), but if not, they certainly should be.
Had both bumpers on my car off for some general maintenance a few months back, and although there was no rust on either hanger, I noticed the scuffing on the paint where the bumpers had been moving about. Cleaned them and shot a couple of coats of lacquer over the top to give a little extra protection. Shame Subaru didn't think of this themselves...

Boro, I've had my MY97 for 6 months now and its got two 10p blister spots on roof at top of windscreen. I hope it isn't too bad, and they feel quite solid at the moment underneath. Cheers.

Ive got a 03 sti, its just over 3 weeks old. Obviously no rust but it did come with a paint blemish which you can see here http://www.peterandnicki.co.uk/images/paint.jpg
If anybody has anything like this get in contact with either Subaru or myself. They are getting an independent paint specialist to examine my car and another one with the same problem.
I should add that the finish is smooth on this suggesting its a factory defect.

MY97, Externally spotless, but just had a look up under the rear bumper and that panel has rust all the way along It's not so bad you can put your finger through it or anything, but it's there I would guess the front is the same.
