Give the owner a call and ask if it is on the insurance register,
ie.class c or d insurance write off or stolen/recovered.Either way it would be worth alot less than a "straight" one and any future payout by an insurance company will not be for the going value, as the car will already have had a claim on it (at least as far as a write off is concerned).
Although it could just be a decent cheap motor, but a HPI check is worth it's weight in gold

Sorry meant to continue the message -not that I wanted to highlight it.
I use both to ferry auto journalists around
The car you describe sounds too cheap and I would not even look at it. If it has been driven anyway like "our" EVO has it will be knackered and for that price it sounds likely.

I think i've seen this car before around Broadmarsh in Nottingham, certainly looks the same Lreg, red, lexus lights, type RA. If it is the same one, I spoke to the (then) owner, 21 years old, who really didn't have a clue about scoobys.
The car looked in good nic but the engine sounded a bit rough, very "metalic", not smooth and quite. We had a bit of a play and my 280bhp ish (maybe a bit more) uk turbo beat it by a bit of a margine. We spoke after and he said his car was 330bhp cos that's what he was told when he bought it!, but didn't have a clue what mods were on it. I mentioned that his car sounded rough and he was asking me what to do about it!!!!
He said that he had paid 7.5k for it but was selling it to his mate??
Make of this what you will , I'm not slagging the car that you are going to look at, as it may not be the same one, but it is definatly a dead ringer for it.
Hope this helps if you do go to look at it.

I recently bought a 1994 WRX RA IMPORT, mine is post sep 1994 (checked via the vin number), apparently the post Sep ones are 260bhp standard. They have for sure light weight boot and bonnet - not sure if the doors are different/lightened.
The original RA version does not have things like, central locking, air con, electric windows and stereo, although mine has had the central locking, AC and stereo added to it (This is speculation on what I have read, someone more knowlegable can correct me if im wrong).
If its an RA it will have (on what I have read) an uprated suspension and a close ratio gearbox. I can testify to this as 90Mph = almost 5000rpm in 5th (on my private airfield )
It soldiers on to 140mph at 7500rpm (however I will never do this from what I have read on the boards a few scoobs seem to die on prelonged running at high rpm, if their mixture is running lean )
Run on optimax plus octane booster.
Had a service last Sat, its on 84000Kph and am aiming at replacing all the belts on next service.
Hope I have been a help
Andrew
EDIT: forgot to add mine cost me more than that and its been very well looked after, I would be very careful at that price.
