turbo timers and cat1 alarms
#1
where do you stand fitting one as i just phoned my dealer about the alarm and they said as there aware if you fit one you lose your cat1 status so then you have to tell the insurance company arent there t/t that work with cat1 alarms without losing the status

*Anything* that messes with the immobilisation of your car techically invalidates the Cat 1 status. The vast majority of policies for imprezas now state that your theft insurance will be invalid if your cat 1 isn't fitted and working as installed.
I wouldn't touch a turbo timer with a barge pole for this reason, but on the other hand some insurers are happy to put them on their list of modifications without flinching? Check with your insurance company, and get an answer in writing.
Turbo timers have to override the auto immobilisation of your car. The way they do this can mean that nothing on the alarm's wiring is changed, but they still mess with its functionality.
Cheers,
Nick.
