Question

I have just bought my first Scooby with French dealer I hasten to add.

After just 400 miles I noticed a metallic sound when changing gears which then also reappears when revving. Additionally I noticed oscillation between 3800 and 4700 rpm. My dealer completely dismisses the problem saying the STi clutch is very hard etc etc and that the other people, including my boyfriend who owns an Evo 7, cannot offer an opinion before having driven other STis!

The dealer tells me the metallic sound is due to the turbo. True anyone?

Anyone got any opinion about the oscillation.

It feels a bit funny posting a message about car problems when I just forked out 33.5K euros three weeks ago.

Should you keep below 4000 rpm for the first 1000miles??

maybe, but it isn't that easy

My dealer told me that the occasional fling wouldn't harm things - just don't keep at high revs or boost for a long time.

I'd keep it below 1K if I were you, not worth the "fling"!!!

So it this noise happening on gear change (at standstill & at these revs) and is it as your putting your clutch in or as you've selected the next gear and still have your foot on the clutch)?

I,ve got an STI7 , so pretty similar, the problem you describe about the oscillation may be the heat shield rattling as it does this on mine at about 3000 rpm.

I think you will have to get used to the car over a longer period of time as they are not like anything else that you may have driven and they seem to get better after a few miles on the clock

There is a lot of plastic on plastic moises to contend with as well - but then again it is not the interior quality that these cars are known for it is the handling and performance so I would try to put up with some small noises and enjoy.

It is most likely the exhaust heatshield.

Mine is going in to have them modified at the next service (big hammer and a file).

Apparently it can be made worse when they disturb them when fitting PPP etc.

Get a different dealer to have a look.
