I've been told by a reliable source that the fuel is called Ultimate Unleaded and is only 97 octane. Really just a new name for super unleaded.

Okay, so that's in Greece, but if I remember correctly, Shell Optimax was released on the continent before it came to our shores.
Can't see that BP would even bother with 97RON when their competitor is above that RON rating already.....

Is there really a big enough market for 100RON fuel?
When the average punter wants 'cheap as chips' petrol and is willing to use the local Supermarket, what incentive to BP or Shell have for developing a high-performance fuel?

Dunno about 100 RON fuel, but obviously there's a market for SUL or it wouldn't be so widely available. Given that the vast majority of cars will run happily on 95 RON, I'm surprised that a better alternative is available at all.
That said, I'd probably buy it anyway (MY00 + PPP).

Has anyone else called their local BP to enquire? I've emailed BP for confirmation. (I have way too much time on my hands!)

When I called my local BP I got some snotty nosed teenager who didn't have a clue what I was talking about. She then asked her manager who said that it would be comming in October. He didn't know the Octane, but said it was greater than their SUL.
Perhaps like Optimax, it will only be sold in selected BP filling stations.

Suggest we all quit dreaming of the extra boost we'll all be able to run and wait for an official announcement.
While it is eminently possible that BP might be bringing a fuel called "Ultimate" to market in the UK, there is no guarantee that it will be 100 RON. As has been mentioned earlier, it's highly possible it will be a 98.something Optimax competitor, or it could simply be that they're sticking some extra detergent in their existing SUL and rebranding it with a big marketing campaign.
As things stand, there is no British Standard for 100 RON fuel, although I'm not sure whether the standard that defines SUL would cover it. Time will tell, and October is only a few weeks away after all...

BP have confirmed that the fuel will be 100 octane and will be sold in the larger Connect stores. For some reason they are trying to keep it under their hat, why I don't know.
The manager at my local BP said that they are expecting this fuel to go on sale from early October.
I was then asked how the **** did I find out.
I also know that this has caused a big stir at Shell and that we should expect V-Power by later this year or early next.
It's not what you know.........
