CHECK ENGINE light came on

I have had my MY99 UK Turbo 2000 for a month. On journey from Preston to Scotland last weekend (steady 80mph) the Check Engine light came on after 50m, then went off 5m later. It did the same three times on return journey. No other warning signs seen. Any ideas, please?

mine has two green plugs under the dash
plugged them together engine light just flashed fast at me
lots of relays clicky under the bonnet and the fan kept going on and off
so unplugged them again
Light has now gone off
