We were stuck yesterday when we couldnt blip off the immobilizer. We were asked if we were near a mobile mast, i looked around and noticed we were on the oppostite side of the road from 02 offices. We got a recovery truck to take us home & it would seen its a common accurance.

So watch out if you park near phone masts. Has this happened to anyone else & how have you fixed the problem? cheers

Yes sort of, I take the dog for a walk in some woods and the car park is about 20 yards from a mast. About 1 in 5 times my alarm won't set or disable, I first thought the battery needed changing in the remote but i've done that and it still happens.

It's a good job i've memorised the pin number, I've had to use it several times and only when I'm in this car park.

Be warned, make sure you know your pin.

yes this happened to me
mostly at the shell station at newport pagnell on the m1 !
ended up getting a new alarm ecu on my MY01 & the problem now seems to be solved touch wood !

is this only happening to ppl with the sigma m30 std alarm, if so ive just had the fitted and they suppose to have fixed the problem with new software? Ive not had any probs at mo.

I believe there is a shield modification that they can put on the alarm box. Should be standard warranty stuff.

Yes, I've had it at the Shell petrol next to the Coppid Beech in Bracknell. The solution was to push the car to a different part of the garage where the interference wasn't so bad, and the immobilser worked.

I had this at Trax yesterday.

Mine used to do it a lot but i had it shielded or something at Subaru and the problem had near-enough gone away.

Yesterday everytime I wanted something from the car I had to unlock the door, thus setting off the alarm and then whack in my PIN. I was then able to re-arm the car as the blipper worked from inside the car!!

You just have to try to block the interferance with your body..

Yep I've had this before. It's ok if you know the black spots near home but if you're out of your normal habitat you're potentially stuffed. Mine is the standard sigma alarm on a classic MY99 UK. Have been told it affects the bugeye though as well, not heard anything about about the MY03.

got a bugeye. This has happened before. While sitting in the car, key in the ignition & blipped away until it clicked. Tried covering the blipper & after a while it worked, so have been using another blipper. But this time the car had to be towed home some 7miles away. The blipper didnt work so tried the original blipper(the one that had the original problems as above) & that worked.

Will take it in. So i as for the alarm/immobilizer to be shielded then?

yep you just heard me, a 6 month old STI '03 and the fecking alternator has gone doo doo, oh well just another 200 pennies to throw at the blim'n thing

Yep that's right I got immobilised with the missus at Bluewater shopping centre a while back, I was told that the phone masts over there where causing the problem and I was recovered home.

One thing I will say is that my tinted windows came in very handy when we got bored waiting for the recovery truck

The Cat & Fiddle near Buxton is notorious for this, so watch out if you have to park at the back of the car-park.

Yes i experienced this quite a bit, then phoned IM and requested it be fixed on a MY00, i have just got this done a few days ago under warranty, took 30mins to do at dealership.

Hi guys
I too have suffered this problem when i was parked near a radio mast and was locked out of my P1 for 2 hours and had to be towed away i spoke to my dealer last week as I was in for a service and they fitted a brand new "shielded" alarm FOC no questions asked
Havent been back to the said place to test it in anger yet but apparrently these are "impervious to the masts" so we shall see!
I suggest anyone who has had problems of this nature to get down to your dealers as they are WELL aware of this common fault!

Ignition on, enter code, nothing.....what am I doing wrong ?

Got it going eventually by pushing it around the car park, bloody backs killing me now.

I had the exact same symptom on an MY00 a couple of months ago - in range of the interference, the PIN didn't work either. I tested that the PIN was correct elsewhere, and it worked. At that time, Chapelgate Subaru (RIP) didn't know anything about shielding.

With regret, I sold the car.

I remember sitting in my old WRX at a Little Thief ages ago LMAO at Mellow Yellow having to push his P1 out of the range of a transmitter. I was laughing to much to help him.

this happended to me on my bike, had to disconnect the alarm by cutting the wires, well the rac man did...

Completly buggered up my weekend, was out for a ride with loadsa people from MCN at the time

I experienced this exact problem while parked in the Shell garage at Newport Pagnell service station (M1 southbound). I thought my keyfob was shagged, but it has been working perfectly since!!

I've got a UK MY00 - doesn't that have a Sigma M30 or something like that?

I've just had mine changed under warranty. I did manage to get the car locked/unlocked by putting my hand underneath the wheel arch nearest the steering wheel!

Dealer said he was doing one replacement a day.

Cheers bashful, strange how it affects the code entry as well.

Looks like I might have to check out the replacement unit, this will be a test of the extended warranty.
