P1 insurance quotes
#1
On the assumption that my P1 will arrive soon (hopefully before September)I was wondering if anyone had got any interesting insurance quotes or tips as to the best companies to approach.

I will be getting my MY00 in June/July. While looking for quotes I got a quote for the P1.
Quoteline Direct gave me the following quote me 27, full protected NCB fully comp.....£8400. (must be a mistake?)
Anyway, they gave me a quote of £554 approx. for the MY00.

I got quotes of £2000 for a P1 from several companies!
I'm 27, full NCB, traker'd, alarmed, garaged, Disklok'd & company use. I couldn't have got it any cheaper without being older!!
I refuse to ever pay that much, so I had to cancel my P1!!
My current car MY97 UK, ScoobySport downpipe, backbox, driving lights, Prodrive suspension, quickshift, MY99 spoiler, 17" alloys & K&N air inductor, with the same bits as above costs me £1200. The strange thing is that I have an agreed vavlue of £20k on the car, but was only offered £12k as part of a trade in for the P1!
Strange when I'm better off crashing the car, than trading it in or selling it privately!!!
I can't see how they justify the extra £800. It wasn't just one company either!!

STEF. TAKE YOUR POINT, THIS ONLY REFERS TO SIDC SCHEME. AS I DON'T YET OWN A SCOOBY(P1 WILL BE MY FIRST) I THOUGHT OF WAITING TO JOIN 'TILL THEN. I'VE HAD ONE QUOTE FROM ADMIRAL IN REGION OF £800. 48 YR OLD (OLD GIT) FULL COMP SDP+COMMUTING, 3 PTS FULL NCD.
DONT SEEM TOO BAD?

Don't know if it's any help to you, but I ended up with Hyperformance (the insurer is AXA) with my STi. I have a mate who found Adrian Flux the best, but strangely they couldn't deliver for me.
It ended up being about £100 more than for my old Terzo (admittedly I was probably being 'done' by the old insurer), but they throw in RAC cover which helps a bit.
I also filtered out companies that didn't answer in a reasonable time or had really annoying automated answering systems.
I found that most of the insurers won't touch an import (including the badly named silverstone). Strangely I had a fair(ish) quote from endsleigh so they might be worth a go.
By the way, anyone thinking of buying an STi - DO IT !!! Everything the UK car should be (except the P1 presumably).

Ian,
Strictly speaking, you should advise insurers of ANY modification *sigh*....alloys, spoilers, engine management, exhaust, stereo (tho accepted this would probably not void a policy) etc - also alarms, immobilisers, barrier locks etc (tho these obviously help reduce the overall cost - allegedly!!). If you do not, and following an incident you attempt to claim - and, yea you guessed....an engineer has to go out and inspect the vehicle prior to repairs being carried out, and...yup....he finds your mods....well he could technically refuse to pay the claim, and void the policy!!!!.
Better to tell all day one....and have peace of mind that you are fully covered - otherwise insurance is just a waste of hard earned wonga!!!
Hope I didn't bore you all too much....but an Insurance Brokers job is never done....*LMAO*

Oh deary....think I'd best cancel the P1 test-drive....stick to an older Scoob I reckon.
I don't think I'll have much chance of getting touched on one by the sounds of things.....20yrs old , 3yrs no-claims, no points.....D'oh!

revisiting this thread, my old cheapest quote was £1100 from Greenlight.
Phone my current insurer, Adrian Flux, today, who beat that quote at £1073...
...which is exactly the same as the renewal on my Terzo.
Weird. Does this imply that the risk is almost entirely based on the driver rather than the car?!?!
Cameron
(some places reckon I'm worth more than £2,000 )
