Does anyone know if the 202 had the front LSD? If not it would make an interesting comparison with the new C spec which has it.

The S202 isn’t ‘just’ a Bugeye Spec C with some fancy bits on. It was blead over by STi in almost every area to get the optimum chassis and engine performance from the car. It’s also a lighter machine. It was the first Impreza to have a new trick front suspension set up including something STi call the 'cross performance bar' which virtually eradicates the dreaded understear.
‘Suretrack’ front diff, mechanical rear diff. Titanium Silencer, Roller Bearing Turbo, Pillow Ball Bushing for the Suspension, Oil Cooler etc etc etc. Loads of other special bits that enabled the engineers to produce a VERY special Impreza with Exceptional character.

Check out Evo’s road test of January 2003.

www.evo.co.uk

John Barker wrote it was the best Impreza he’d ever driven. Some compliment.

I just read the brouchures specs for the 202 and noticed something interesting, Subaru speak of the modifications to the car as being 'conversions'. This might very well mean that certain or all conversions may be able to be done to more mundane sti's?

Thats what i was trying to sell mine for, basically the S202 is one hell of a car, very quick, quicker than JDM STIs,inside the same(except steering wheel)loads of mods which im sure you know about, not quite as good as the spec c which has the DCCD,twin scroll turbo, although a lot rarer(spelling)only 400 made, and because of that they arnt much cheaper than the spec c limited edition, would still love one though, there was one for sale in the for sale section £28,000 i think, which isnt far off the spec c,although the S202 does come with the carbon fibre spoiler, the spec c doesnt,in terms of performance there is hardly any difference,if you like the bugeye shape go for the S202,if you like the new shape go for the spec c limited.I know what i want!!

The S202 is just an MY02 Spec C with extras, so you can pretty much work out the spec, and what the insurance is going to be like.

Yes, they're nice cars, but not as nice as the MY03 JDM STi's - let alone the '03 Spec C...

The S202 was a limited edition of 400. Not sure how many "normal" MY02 Spec C's were made, or indeed how many 2003 equivalents.

There will be a minimum level necessary to satisfy FIA homologation requirements, but not sure whether it's 2500 or 25,000 nowadays...

they are certainly quicker and handle better than JDM STIs,to put a term on it they are STId right up,everything STI is on these.

Which Spec C are you talking about? The S202 was the testbed for most of the bits that subsequently became standard on the MY03 "C" - including the altered front suspension geometry and lighter brake rotors.

If you want something that's "STi'd to the max", the 2003 car still has the edge due to the better induction/charging/exhaust.

S202 still has more 'fancy dan' bits and bobs.
I would imagine as a second hand low mileage car it could turn out to be a cheaper vehicle to buy also.
Couldn't go wrong with either - cracking cars.

If you're referring to RB5 286's links, you gotta be a bit careful with Babelfish automatic translations - the wording isn't always appropriate in context!

To a certain extent you have a point, as the parts that make the S202 different could physically be bolted onto the "normal" JDM STi RA.

However, if by "more mundane" STi's you're referring to the regular, non-RA JDM or UK cars, don't forget that they use heavier bodyshells, so no amount of bolt-on parts would create exactly the same spec as the 202...

Grease,

When you refer to heavier bodyshells do you mean just that they are heavier or heavier and stiffer? I'm under the impression that actually the lighter bodyshells of the C specs are stiffer than all other Impreza's- probably due to more seam welding (as on the 22B) and/or due to the select application of high strenth steel and particular high stress joints in the unibody. (as Honda did with their Integra R)
