since buying the new wrx ppp 6 weeks ago, I have been very good at ignoring the saxo/corsa morons with the dustbin sized exhausts that sound louder than the new Typhoon jet but I had a complete breakdown this morning on the way to work, and if my wife found out she would be calling me a d.......head.

I work 6-7 miles away from my home and the journey is one big winding country lane, very wide and very little in the way of traffic or houses, so its a nice fast drive into work, oh and one gatso.

As a pulled out of my housing estate a blue TT raced up behind me and obviousley wanted to 'get it on', as usual I turned up the cd, but when I looked in the mirror something about the guys look really annoyed me, he had a look of 'yeh thats right baby its TT!!!!!!, get out of the way', well the testostorn, or whatever the hell its called came pumping thru, and as we approched the lights leading onto a 2 mile straight before the winding stuff, he pulled up besides me and gave me that look again then smurked, and started reving the engine, he was about 30, suited up and I can image, if I had backed off he would be telling the boys in the office that he scared the **** out of me and that he would have eaten me for breakfast. As the lights changed I floored it, I mean really went for it, smashing the gears, after I got up close to triple figures I looked back...... he was miles behind, I remember thinking, is that it? after all that, he did not even give me my monies worth, so I slowed down. I wanted to completley destroy him on the bends as well.

Now I thought he would be thinking, 'holy ****, i'm not going to let him do that to me again and back off', but no, I was all out, again as we approched the bends, I did the same again, 3-4 miles later I turn off at some lights and they were just turning to red, so I waited, and waited, and waited, I thought he must have backed off, but as I looked in my mirror he came round the bend almost on two weeks, the lights changed and I turned left, just as he was going past, and he did not even look over, to see my smirking face.

I know its stupid, but whats the point in having a scoob if now and then you do dont have a little squirt, what surprised me was that the look on his face really wound me up, its hard to explain, but I can imagine he went to the office saying he blew me away!!!

For any dibble reading this, it was a private ex-MOD track we raced on in a controlled enviroment.

Whats best of all its my 37th birthday today, so a nice present!

Mark

PS Side question, the car did not have anything on the back to say if it was a 180 or 225, how can you tell....please tell me it was a 180, cos if not those cars are very, very slow by comparison, Oh I dont want to **** off the TT owners, I think they are a very good looking car, just **** poor on the driving side.

180's are two exhausts too now. Happened at the same time as the 180 got the six speed box.

I know what you mean. 99% of the time, I just ignore them, but I had this one 'boy racer' in an F reg Escort just smirking at me with his girlfriend in the passenger seat with his bit dustbin sized exhaust. Well, all I can say is when I next saw him at the next set of lights, he wasnt smirking no more.

I know it is very bad to do this, but I agree with what you said Mark.

By the way, Happy Birthday

Why ignore the hatches but race the TT?

A VTS is as fast in a straight line as a 180TT and can be modded to be faster than the 225 quite easily Same goes for GSI corsa's? Unless its wet and or very twisty (2nd gear hairpin after 2nd gear hairpin) with broken road a Saxo or sorted corsa will grip better than a TT and in many situation better than your car. I guess what you are trying to say is that your a badge snob which is exactly why tomorrow someone in a 911 turbo will think, 'look at the **** in the preza'

Mark, The unfortunate thing is that the so called squirt in the TT will probably get back to the office and brag that he's just eaten an impreza for breakfast, It's even more satisfactory when there's a passenger in the car you have just whooped.

A few months back a guy in a green lotus with his girl friend pulled up at the side of me at some T/lights, gave me that I've got a faster car than you m8ty look and revved his engine, I knew exactly what he was going to do, his hopes were to beat me off the line and pull in front of me as the lane I was in eventually lead on to the motorway slip road (1 lane only). I was also in that p*ssed of type of mood for some reason and let's be honest it can be dangerous. TBH I thought he would be faster of the mark, The other strange thing is that I did a very poor launch which is unusual for me but when the lights changed we were side by side all the way to 60 but as soon as I hit 60 he backed off and exactly as I predicted pulled into my lane, however behind me , I was at the time running a pro-drived 02 bug but have since increased the power slightly to give me a bit more added satisfaction.

good on yer lads! why some people buy fast cars is beyond me when all they do is condemn anyone who breaches the statutory speed limit!

buy fast cars and drive them fast (and sensibly!) while you can, cos in 8/10 yrs time - it won't happen no more!

don't get me wrong here, it is best left to trackdays but unfortunately life is too short to go slow every day of the week

Cool

A few years ago, my brother had a 2ltr Astra (the type before the current one). I think it was a GSi??? Anyway, he had is freind with him as they were going to a RC car racing meet. He pulled up at some lights on a duel-carrigeway. A maxed out Escort pulled up next to him with the drive and 3 passanges. The driver was giving the usual signals so by brother decided to oblige. He beat him of the lights and pulled away easily. At the next lights he saw all the passanges laguhing their asses off giving the driver a hard time. He was looking looking V embarrised. The reason? My brother was towing a caravan!

I would love to have been there...

Bl**dy Audi TTs - fashion/lifestyle cars.
Almost as bad as VW Beetles.
Not a real driver's car IMHO - it should have Gucci on the back not Audi.

What's all this i know it's bad to speed etc but it has to be done occasionally. I can not imagine anything more mundane than driving my Scooby down a nice twisty country lane at 60/70 and can't believe most Scooby owners don't regularly do three figures down country lanes. Stop being so PC, tell the truth and enjoy the car.

SUPERB thread - made me smile, especially as nobody (yet) giving you grief about irresponsible driving blah blah. Why on earth would anyone own a Scoob and not do this once in a while?!

thebothy,

In your dreams mate! I assume you're talking about 125-250cc bikes then?
I could easily sit behind your P1 until you get to your top speed then blat passed you like you've just gone into reverse.

Not necessarily Scunner, I have a mate with a superbike who wont take on a local Evo 6 cos the Evo always beats him on the country lanes round here.

He says he is quicker on the straights but doesn't have the traction on the bends and the Evo gets him everytime. Mind you it is a 400+bhp Evo
