Vehicle Inspections

anyone know who's good for a vehicle inspection
AA/RAC?
anyone used this new company "Used car checks" @ £99 even inspecting imports with 45 day warranty? - its in the letters section of this months Jap Performance mag. They're even supposed to get it up on the ramps too to check it out, (unlike AA etc).
last time i used AA, they barely spent 15 minutes looking the car over, the report was only half complete, and i still had to cough up the full wack , w*nkers.
any thoughts/opinions?
TIA

I sold a MGF a little while ago and this guy paid £180 to get it AA checked. The guy from AA didnt test drive it, take the wheels off or even have a look at the engine.
BUT... did manage to find it had had some paintwork!!! WOW!!! Well worth it, show me a 5 year old car that HASNT!!!
Biggest waste of money ever if u ask me!

If I was buying a Scooby locally Id take it to the Subaru Service Centre on St Mary's Gate in the old Premier Works site. For the cost of an hours labour they will be able to find anything that is apparent. Ive got a fresh WRX import going in there on friday for the very same thing. RAC / AA inspection are ok for more common vehicles... Ive seen them come to do Porsches and the man has never set eyes on one before; whats he going to find? You need a specialist.

selling a car at the mo, had the aa do an inspection today, paid for by the potential new owner-£199, he did spend 1 & 1/2 hours looking over the car and yes he did have it up on the ramps to have a good check underneath, and did a 5 mile test drive, did find some new paintwork on the car, and oil was not to the max and a numberplate bulb was gone, not sure if it was worth £199 but for peace of mind, its not a bad thing if he finds out it has been in a major accident (unrecorded) of course, then its £199 well spent.

i seem to remember thats about all i got for my £150. a cursory check on the vehicle, no test drive or anything like that, and a glance under the vehicle. (it was a celica gt4 Turbo import).
Problem is the vehicle is at a garage up north, i havent paid for it yet (only deposit) and not sure of how to get a 'proper' inspection done preferably by a specialist.
i think i'll give these 'Used Car Checks' people a ring and find out how it all works...
i'll repost what goes on for those interested/in same position as me.
cheers,
