Thanks for that, I'll have a look.

Isn't silverstone a broker though rather than a company. Meaning that there is a middle man making his little bit each time?

After attending the meeting in north london on sunday (before the split up) we started to ponder the power of the impreza community. This brought us onto the subject of insurance costs.

With the current memebership number of 2660, surely this must give us some enormous group buying power. Is it not about time that someone appraoched and insurance company and actively arranged significantly reduced premiums for bbs/sidc members.

I am sure if we spoke with privilege or admiral, a guaranteed number like this would get them listening.

The purpose of this post and the reason it is in this section is for it to get noticed.

Would someone be willing to speak with a company on our behalf?

I thought perhaps a petition type thing with sveeral hundred (or a couple of thousand if poss) agreeing to use said company in return for a numbers discount might interest people.

I think a show of hands in this tread might be a little overwhelming but can some one in the know or even in the bbs administration set up a place where we can submit names for this purpose.

I remember the idea being suggested before but nothing has materialised. It is rare that a car has such a close nit following so surely apart from share of experience and knowledge it would be useful to put this together once an for all.

I would still appreciate some feedback or ideas on this subject, so please reply with any comments.

Should be a good case I think.
I'm a member of Ford RS owners (don't shout please...), they've done a lot of work and secured a great deal for members with a specific company - at a time when mainstream cosworth premiums were £1200+ (maybe still are!) I've heard reports of people halving that through the club scheme.

Adam,

A thread along these lines was in the Insurance section a couple of weeks ago. A group scheme has been set up with Silverstone Insurance as per RSOC, sorry I can't remember the contact number.

Have looked at post on this and don't think this is what I had in mind.

An insurance company who are guaranteed at least 500 policies a year for an improved price. Not just a 35 quid discount on other peoples prices. I was thinking of something far more significant, that has been properly negotiated directly with an insurance company, and not a broker being asked to help out a club.

Well, I know the Supe guys would love to set up something like this, but as there are only about 350 or so of us, we probably haven't got the muscle. However, premiums for us seem to be comparable to scoobies, so maybe you could consider letting us in, and then we could all benefit: You by us pumping your figures by 300, helping the bargaining power, and us by getting far cheaper premiums.

Whadda ya think?

Agree with you Adam. I'll approach a few companies such as Admiral and Privelege who seem to be pretty competetive and see what they can do.

With around 800 SIDC memebrrs and 2600+ on this bulletin board and effectivley free advertising for the company willing to offer something good, there is alot of business for someone.

I'll see what can be done.

PS I'm also going to see if I can't sort something out for IT kit in general which hopefully will save us a bit more dosh.

Excellent idea!

Can I suggest Greenlight or Chris Knott as being specialist insurers. It's not really 2600 + 800 though. There must be a lot of overlap, many Scoobs are company-owned, and many of the 2600 are no longer posting/reading.

It would be great if this was an SIDC-led issue because insurance companies may only recognise a true club if it has a secretary, joining fee etc.

There is definitely an overlap, but there are still well over a thousand, and at an average premium of appraoching 1000, we are talking millions for the guaranteed company that can tak us on, minus the discount hopefully.

If the bmw is anything to go buym then a £500 premium for me would be massively appreciated.

Are there any ideas on how to get the bbs admin to set up a show of hands without producing a huge tread?

The sidc is a good idea, but communication across it is no where near as strong as on this + 22b.com bulletin board. We need to make a more postive effort to get this going.

Guys'n'Gals,

Whilst appreciate the thread - I would not be too optomistic about gaining an insurers backing at present.

The motor market is in termoil, prices as we have all seen have increased drastically over the last 18 months as a result of increased Third Party Personal Injury claims as well as Theft related incidents. The introduction of the Woolf Report/Reform has left insurers with little to no time to investigate claims. Increased Thefts and RTA's have resulted in increased costs etc etc etc...

Insurers are just not interested in taking on possibly the most Nickable performance vehicle of the last decade...and possibly the next.

I am an Insurance Broker, ...and I do deal in motor...all be it on a smaller company/commercial basis and I have a small scheme that has been set up for P1's....but even that over the last 2 months has seen rates increasing in line with the rest of the industry!!!...

I think that you/we would be better off speaking to a registered broker who has an interest in and already deals with high performance vehicles. I hasten to add that my brokerage is not touting for this business!

Although the Broker would be the middle man, he would still be able to secure favourable rates - especially if he already had a profitable scheme for...lets say....BMW's.... running.

We, unfortunately have no previous history/claims experience to sell the idea to them...we would be going to them requesting the best rates in the market with no guarentee of the premium income compared to the estimated claims experience.

I'm not suggesting that its not worth persuing....but realistically I think we would benefit from the assistance of a specialist broker.

For those SIDC members amongst us....wasn't there an article in one of the latest issues of True Grip to do with insurancec - maybe its worth discussing the idea with that knowlegeable fella....

Sorry to put a downer on the whole thing...its just my own feeling about the industry at present...I may well be wrong...and if you pull it off DIRECT with a carrier I will be the 1st to place my business with you!!...and will personally drive to whereever you live and deliver a keg of Yorkshire finest ale to you for your effort!!!!

All the best

Rum
