bike racks

ANybody any experience of transporting bikes?
I need to carry 2 bikes and not sure about the best type of rack. Most of the rear mounted ones look like they're for hatches only?
MY03 WRX
Cheers

I have a Thule two bike carrier that goes on the roof.
Takes about 2 minutes to fit and is secure to carry bikes at 85mph (according to the manual).
Once fitted it's rock solid and the bikes can be attached in seconds.

I can fit both my bikes in the boot of my MY99. Take the wheels off and take the seat post out and they go in head to toe. Stem and handle bars stay put. One set of wheels can go on top and the others in the back seat.
I used to use a rack on my old car but I like carrying them inside the car as its less of worry to leave at the services/out side the pub etc., doesn't create excess drag and also give the lowest centre of gravity!
They are fairly small though - a 15" Turner RFX and a Small Cannondale Lefty. I like small bikes!
Ben.

How far u going ? I remember Clarkson once spouting that it's cheaper to put the bikes on a train, drive from S England to Scotland and pick them up at the station rather than cover the distance with the added drag (ie fuel consumption). Not as convenient tho'.
