I had the same thoughts, but after posting a similar fear, i took onboard what other scoobynetters said:

1: **** 'Em and enjoy your new car
2: Always leave enough room in front at traffic lights so you can blast away if needed
3: If theres no escape and they demand the keys, hand them over , you paid for a tracker and insurance, let them do the work
4: Always know whats in your mirrors incase your followed (happened to me for first time a few nights ago)
5:Cars can be replaced "YOU" cant (open to debate )
6: **** 'EM and enjoy your new car

Pick up my first scoob on saturday so i'm in the same boat but as an alarm engineer i see too many people who think it won't happen to them untill it does you should see a 9 year old kid who's just had his birthday pressy's knicked by some thieving *anker .I wouldn't call it being paranoid just being sensible.

Taking delivery of my 1997 Impreza WRX STI TYPE-R in about 2 weeks, it's my first Impreza.

After reading this forum for the last 2 months, i'm starting to, umm, get a little freaked out about my car possibly being nicked.

FARRKINGGG hell, how does the scum manage to nick our scoobys with cat 1 alarms on them???

ARRGGHHHH, is my Clifford Concept 300 & tracker and Steering wheel lock going to be enough?

Should i slepp with my keys under the pillow???

Take the alarm off and leave your keys in the car at night as this is the only way to stop scum from breaking into your house at night and beating you up until you give them the keys. It tends to be hardened armed robbers who will be after your car so don't **** them around once they're in your house or they'll probably knee cap you. Other than that enjoy the experience of owning your first scooby and sleep tight!

When I first got my Scooby about 9 months ago now, I kept my old car a Rover 214 (i know, I Know). Every night I moved my scooby to the back of my drive put my wheel lock on, then parked the rover infront and put a wheel lock on that.

I soon got fed up with that every night, the paranoia does wear off over time.

Sound advice from everyone - my paranoia has certainly waned over the last 15 months.

Just remember - good alarm (ideally Backjax as well), a visible deterrent (eg Disklok) and 'tyres & tarmac' as the police say (ie plently of room at junctions and lights).

And the most important thing to remember? Enjoy the bl**dy thing - it's only a car (albeit a very nice one!).

just be carefull with the keys, ive always been paranoid tho as most of my previos cars have looked really nickable, only way you will be truely paranoid free is oif sumbody is watching the car all the time

A Disklok is definately worth the £80 outlay (cheaper at Costco, among other places, do a search) as they have stood up to over 5 minutes of attack with power tools by recognised testers. Blackjax will allow your car to be driven away from you for a short time to allow your escape from a carjack situation, and then if a code isn't entered on a 2 button pad the engine cuts out (about £160). Barrier Deadlocks are a shootbolt system which locks the transmission in a gear and the only way to disable it is to jack up the car and attack with welding gear (£200+ IIRC). A decent quality steel post set into the driveway is well worth it too, even if you have a garage. I will be doing all these when I get my Scoob, as well as having "something" with me too. Don't put any faith in those expanding steering wheel locks which fit between the spokes, I'm no car thief (honest) and I could remove one in about 15s. A steering wheel has a 3mm steel ring inside surrounded by foam and wrapped in leather, not exactly substantial, and it's this they attack not the lock. Also, don't be too confident about Cat1 alarms. Although the teenage joyriders struggle with them, the pros have them sussed.
The message is basically layer up your defences, cause them to think twice about your motor and that there are easier alternatives and they might just leave yours alone. But if the worst happens and you're awoken rudely in the night, let them have it.
A final thought. Some of the new mobile phones have GPS tracking. Secreting one of these inside the car wired to the battery is a cheap way of doubling up on the tracker devices and well worth considering. If the police aren't doing too well in tracing your car, you might be able to help them out.

dont go too far with all the security stuff. a decent cat1 system, perhaps something mechanical and stick it in the garage (or concrete a post in your drive). if they really want it they will wait for you to get in it.

trackers are OK for insurance but if it is nicked, do you really want it back?

i am more paranoid about scratches than big hairy burglers they can have the car hopefully they will speed off and hurt only themselves on a tree

If they want it then they will get it no used getting paranoid about it. I know prevention is better than nothing and I have Cat 1 immobolizer etc. Just go enjoy the car and have fun and make sure you see this on your face every time you drive .

We should not be paranoid about driving our cars that is what they want just be sensible.

I have one from the GFC range, its mega beefy, the removeabel tube is filled with concrete, I had the post shortened in height to 2 ft as the missus could'nt lift it ... I knew these were good as Comet use them as anti-ram bars for the front of their shops .... you may say over the top , but when i just paid 20 grand for a scoob i'd kinda like to hold on to it ....
