Thanks for Advice- decided which car to get
#1
Hi all,
After the many responses i've had to a few posts i put here to help me decide which scoob to get, i've decided to look for a ~1yr old WRX, with the PPP and a few other bits of kit added on (new spoiler for a start)
Thanks again,
Chris

cheers, although it's looking like the PP is going to be a big no-no due to the horrendous differenve in insurance premium. over 600 quid extra to have the PPP on the car.
In terms of performance, what extra does it give. I believe about 10% extra BHP, but what about 0-60's etc.
I suppose i could get an ex demo standard WRX with some bigger wheels etc now and then get a PPP fitted in about a years time.

Std WRX vs PPP
0-60 5.5 vs 4.8
0-100 15.9 vs 14.1
50-70 (gears) 5.7 vs 5.1
Std Qtr 14.3 vs 13.7
Power up from 225PS(5600rpm) to 265PS(6000rpm), torque up 16% to 348Nm and available throughout rev range.
Figures from Prodrive.
As for insurance, try Liverpool Victoria or Greenlight 01277 263030. Both are mod friendly.
Happy shopping

both may be mod friendly but they won't quote me for being under 30!!
Madness, i assume that on the eve of my 29th birthday i'm going to undergo some sort of change which will make me a better driver.
F**king hell, i'm starting toget really fed up with this insurance quote gathering.
Cheapes i have had so far:
I'm 25, 4 years NCD, no points, no claims, licence held for 7 1/2 years, car kept on road.
£1315 from tesco, and they are insisting upon a tracker being fitted.
So far i have tried
Elephant 1482
Liv Vic 30 +only
Privilige 1443
Direct Line 1355
Adrian Flux (current insurer)
Tesco 1315
Churchill 30+ only
esure won't quote
Greenlight 30+ only
Any other suggestions?????
Chris

I think it ight be related to the year of the car. Some folks are getting quotes on pre 2000 cars it seems, but i'm looking for one about a year old so i've got a bit of warranty, loweer mileage, and the hope that the car hasn't been ragged all over the country.

Have you tried Norwich union direct or the Halifax ?
Not sure if you have to be over 30 or not !
If you live in the North west drop me a E mail and I'll give the number for a good broker - beat my LV quote last year !

Insurance is the killer in plenty of people's speed plans..... however old you get it never seems to get any less painful. Why not get yerself a nice standard WRX (more choice than modded?) and mod it as you go/when you can afford the insurance?
Or for pure driving fun just get a nice MY00 classic for sensible money and lower insurance...

I'm thinking of a standard WRX, sticking a quickshift in it, a new spoier at the back and some other cosmetic stuff.
I've seen a Subaru Approved used car, in black with 11k miles on in registered last september, i might go and have a look at it.

What model are you suggesting i look at???
As for my location relating to an good broker, i'm on Glasgow, so i'm not sure if your broker will be interested in speaking to me.
Cheers

Well boys I really feel for you!
when you get to the ripe old age of 45ish then you can start getting insurance for, (wait for it), £480.00 fully comp for a my/2002 wrx, with the wife on, with a WR back box, and a quad headlight conversion. Still I have gone through life paying extortionate rates so I think I deserve it.

Chris_O,
I have got a MY98 UK Wagon - R reg purchased for 10k from main subaru dealer (70k miles). It's possible to get a 3 year subaru backed warranty at the same time as you purchase your car (to add a bit of piece of mind). So far it's been a great car and as standard the classics are a faster than the later bugeye model, or so they say on scoobynet anyway. Insurance with Liverpool victoria for about £800/year (3yrs NCB) with me and the wife - I'm 27 years old, wife 29. Postcode is AB10 (aberdeen) but not garaged at night.
Not sure you need to spend your whole budget to get a good car! Spending £10 - £12k will get a good car (classic) with 30k - 40k or less miles with plenty in reserve for mods if required.
Cheers

Chris, the classics are the old shape impreza`s, stopped production in 2000 i believe. The bug-eyes are the first of the new shape impreza`s (2001-2002), the ones with the dodgy headlights (hence bug-eye) and the newest ones are just a facelift version of the bug-eye (2003 onwards) with the bigger headlights etc.
The impreza turbo 2000, STi type r, P1 etc. are all 'classic' impreza`s, the 1 year old WRX you`ve decided to look for is a bug-eye
Cheers

To add to my previous Greenlight comment - I had to own it a year before they would insure me - so I spent a year at Hy-Performance at £1100, and then went down to £891 with Greenlight this January.
