Ladies and gentlemen, of the board of scoobynet.
Use Castrol RS10/60.

If I could offer you only one tip for the future, Castrol RS10/60 would be it.

The long-term benefits of Castrol RS10/60 have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience.
I will dispense this advice now.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your scoob.
Oh, never mind.
You will not understand the power and beauty of your scoob until it’s blown up.
But trust me, in 20 years, you'll look back at photos of your scoob and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous it really looked.
You scoob is not as pfat as you imagine, unless its a 22B.

Don't worry about the future.
Or worry, but know that worrying is as effective as trying to solve the mystery of big end no3 by fitting a decat.
The real troubles in your life are apt to be things that never crossed your worried mind.
The kind that blindside you at 4 p.m. on some idle Tuesday.

Do one thing every day that scares you.

Drive!!!

Don't be reckless with other people's scoobs.
Don't put up with people who are reckless with yours.

Polish.

Don't waste your time on jealousy.
Sometimes you're ahead, sometimes you're behind.
The race is long and, in the end, it's only with yourself.

Remember compliments you receive.
Forget the insults.
If you succeed in doing this, tell me how.

Keep your old MOT’s.
Throw away your old garage bills.

Do Donuts.

Don't feel guilty if you don't know when to stop modifying your scoob.
The most interesting people I know didn't know at 22 what they wanted to do with their scoobs.
Some of the most interesting 40-year-olds I know still don't.

Get plenty of NF.
Be kind to your pistons.
You'll miss them when they're gone.

Maybe you'll modify, maybe you won't.
Maybe you'll have a blown engine, maybe you won't.
Maybe you'll decat at 40, maybe you'll dance the funky chicken when it passes another MOT.
Whatever you do, don't congratulate yourself too much, or berate yourself either.
Your choices are half chance.
So are everybody else's.

Enjoy your scooby.
Use it every way you can.
Don't be afraid of it or of what other people think of it.
It's the greatest vehicle you'll ever own.

Drive, even if you have nowhere to do it on some tiny off shore island.

Read the directions, even if you don't follow them.

Do not read Max Power magazine.
It will only make you feel superior.

Get to know your garage.
You never know when they'll be needed.
Be nice to your mechanics.
They're your best link to your past spec and the people most likely to sort out your screw-ups in the future.

Understand that cars come and go, but with a precious few you should hold on.
Work hard to bridge the gaps in service history, because the older the car gets, the more you need that history to sell it on.

Live in Glasgow once, but leave before it makes you hard.
Live in Norwich once, but leave before it makes you soft.

Travel.

Accept certain inalienable truths:
Petrol prices will rise.
Politicians will put up car tax.
Your scoob, too, will get old.
And when it does, you'll fantasize that when it was new, petrol prices were reasonable, car tax was low and children respected their dad’s scoob.

Respect your scoob.

Don't expect the petrol gauge to stay full.
Maybe you have company fuel card.
Maybe you'll have a wealthy spouse.
But you never know when either one might run out.

Don't mess too much with your scoob or by the time its 3 it will look buggered.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.
Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

But trust me on the Castrol RS10/60.

John,

My dealer used Shell Helix Semi Synthetic for my 1k service last week (STI 8).

If you are recommending Castrol RS this highly, is it safe for me to "mix" this with the shell stuff, or insist on a full oil change switch to Castrol in 6 months time (if i fancy a mid year oil change, which i don't really fancy but want my scooby to be safe and healthy nevertheless)

I take it Castrol RS is Fully Synthetic, and so mixing it with semi synth is probably not a good idea??

Any advice on this great oil debate greatly accepted!

Just got my motor serviced today, 45,000 and guess what........Castrol RS10/60 (Liquid Gold)

Bl**dy brilliant, just listened to sunscreen and read it through, ROTFLMAO !!!

Do a full change in 6 months once its run in properly. Dont mix and match oils. Yes it's fully synthetic.

Took me 10 minutes mike, prompted by a thread on 22B.COM but made me laugh so i thought some of scoobynet would find it funny.

If you haven't twigged, it's a ripoff from the sunscreen song by Baz Luhrmann. sunscreen song

I remember the song well, must have been at least five years ago?
Plus I've got 3x4litre cans of the stuff that I can't use until the STi is run in properly! (got it for the 99my in which I used it for nearly a year)
I've got quite a few Limericks but this is a family site!

Work hard to bridge the gaps in strength and consistency, because
the older you get, the harder it will be to drive 'round corners like when you were young.

Drive in London once, but leave before you are mistaken for a pimp.
Drive in Liverpool once, but leave before your Impreza gets stolen.

Fuel prices will rise, traffic cops will pull you over. You, too, will get a speeding ticket. And when you do, you'll fantasise that when you were young, fuel prices were reasonable, jam sandwiches couldn't catch you and speeding tickets were NEVER as expensive as this.

Respect psychiatrists. (They drive 22B's)
Don't expect Admiral to pay up in a hurry.

Maybe you'll have a huge overdraft. Maybe you'll have a wealthy spouse. But you never know when either one might stop you from going for a drive that serves no particular purpose but includes some of your favourite country roads

who supply them. Cheap imports are a form of rip-off. Dispensing them is a way of fishing old stock from an auction, wiping them clean, painting over the accident damage and re-selling them for more than they are worth.

But trust me on buying an Impreza.
