22b or P1?
#1
It seems to be that the general consensus of scoobynetters would go 4 for the 22b, is this because there were less made and they r more exclusive? personally i would go for the P1, it looks like an animal, and goes like 1 from what i hear

22b is a close as you can buy to a WRC, seem welded rather than spot. A P1 IMHO is just another special edition. If you want a daily driver go for the P1, if you want something for the weekend then the 22B. There are a lot of reasons for going for the P1, engine parts, body panels, insurance. Most 22B owners want to own the ultimate impreza and a lot have owned them for years and wont give them up LOL. You will also find most 22B owners have another car and dont use them everyday.
I toyed with the idea of a 22B but decided not too.
Just find out how much an OE front bumper and a wing is for a 22B and then decide .

one a piece I didnt say I wouldnt have a 22B it just depends what you want to use it for. Given the choice I would have the 22B over P1 but you have to know the downsides of owning both cars unless this is just which would you prefer in your garage in which case I reckon it will be 99% wanting a 22B.

2.2 litre engine, WRC look-a-like, seem welded, bags of extra torque.
Its the most sought after impreza, most agressive looking, owned by rally champions, built just to celebrate Subaru rally success, doesnt look like any other impreza, only 426 (ish) made.

The torque is spread across the rev range better so the pick up is better as you would expect from a larger capacity engine.

A late model STi5/6 TypeRA Limited in good condition should be around £14-£15K IMHO.
Spec is extensive, it's got pretty much everything decent ever used on the Impreza including the Driver controlled centre diff, front and rear LSD's, bigger driveshafts, bearings, close ratio box, quickrack, intercooler sprays, lightweight glass, alloy bonnet, alacantra SWRT seats, Electric windows/mirrors, Auto climate control, carbon fibre strut brace, larger rear brakes, 300PS 8000rpm engine..........the list goes on. They are the ultimate clasic shape Impreza if you are looking for performance, not quite the same asthetics as a 22B, but what is?

Turbomav, Just my pennys worth....
If you've got loads of dosh to burn then ye the 22b is the ultimate Impreza for you. However, apart from the exlusivity of them (Subaru dealer informed me there were only 13 or so genuine UK cars, how true I don't know)then you are not getting all that much more off the 0-60 etc times than the P1. Certainly, it's got more torque and perhaps smoother power band but only you can decide if this warrants the extra costs involved. For fairly normal road use, would you be all that much more in front driving a 22b against a P1?
At the end of the day a P1 is also an exclusive car. Lookwise, I don't think there is all that much in it. Point to consider also is the age factor. I think 22b's were first made back on R reg 97/98 whereas P1's were out on W 2k editions hence a newer car and parts should be easier and cheaper to source should you need to.
You could also look at type R Impreza's as suggested by someone already, but then again I also believe they were only sold as imports in the UK. Unfortunately some people still frown on imports even though you usually get a better spec on them.
I think my data is fairly accurate but if it's not someone out there will soon correct it. I've only had my P1 for 6 Months so I'm still learning all the info and terminology about Impreza's. Still having loads of fun as well though. Mind and check out some web links yourself regarding performance stats and used car prices before making a decision. Hope this helps.
Cheers
