OK, my baby had her 10,000 service today, done by Quenbys of Baldock. Results and thoughts:

1) Car was ready when they said (5pm), Daihatsu XYZ (or something) courtesy car was horrible to drive...made me appreciate the Scoob!

2) Car was not cleaned. OK, maybe I'm being a little snobish, or was spoiled by Marlborough Isleworth at the first 1,000 service.

3) Car was dropped off with 9956 miles showing. When I picked it up, the odometer was showing 9961 - is it normal for a service to include 5 miles road testing?

4) Was told my front pads will need replacing in about 5,000 miles and seeing as 'they normally last between 20 and 30,000 miles, perhaps I was 'over-driving' the car'. Not sure if this is normal or not, especially as 70% of my miles are done on the motorway?

5) Cost - Free (included as part of a maintenance agreement I have with the finance company)...will ring up tomorrow to see what it would have cost.

Nothing more interesting to say, other than I am driving my first airfield day at the end of Aug and in theory will only have 3,000 miles life left on the front pads by then so...

Should I use 'specialist' pads for the airfield day and can anyone recommmend a good type (budget) and a place in Herts (or near) that would fit them? Should I scrap the original ones or put them back on the car afterwards and keep the airfield day ones ready for a later track outing?

Did you notice in performance difference after the service, as the 10k is the first big one. and on previous new cars I have owned they always feel a lot looser after the first big service ??.

Car certainly felt 'back to health' after the service, but not sure that is down to anything 'loosening up', or just that it has had some attention in the right places.

1) My 10,000 was while you wait - took just over an hour
2) Cleaned
5) £180 approx

No discernable difference in performance

I'm shocked at how quickly I reached 10,000 in just 3 months.

Road test is quite common and 5 miles is not excessive. If the pads are as worn as they say they are, I would certainly change them before doing the airfield track day. It will spoil your day if the brakes are not great.

Days of Chelmsford maybe another alternative for service.
