Hi all!

I have agreed a private sale of Scoob and the deed should be done on Tuesday. Is it normal in these situations to exchange the car immediately in return for a bank draft or to let the cheque clear first?

i would keep the v5 but give him the keys and the car, you should be able to pay a small fee(about £15)to the bank and get the bankers draft expressed cleared in about 20 mins.

Bankers drafts are guaranteed - when they are genuine. You might like to ring the bank on which it was drawn and check that it is not one that has been stolen.....

When I bought my car private from Scoobynet, I arranged for a same day bank transfer (cost 17 quid) but was well worth it

When I went to view the car I took my bank statement to show I had the cash in my account, we shook on it, he gave me his bank details, and the next day I transferred the money, he then phoned me to say the money had cleared, I went and collected the car

After the searches have been done ie HPI, AA or RAC or Specialist reports, ensure the individual has the V5 with them, get it signed with your details, then make a bank transfer (BACS, CHAPS, SWIFT payment).

Will be done within a hour, so sit tight, and drive off your new motor, everyone happy and satisfied and no waiting for documents to follow etc.....
