To all those Impreza critics
#1
Got nothing better to do this morning and I fancied writing something. Not going out of my way to criticize all Scoobynet members. Just a few.
September last year I upgraded from a 1986 Land Rover Ninety to an immaculate black 94 WRX with gold alloys and 60000 on the clock. I very quickly found myself on Scoobynet and have been very impressed by the friendly advice and wealth of information available.
However, I have been a bit disappointed with the image criticism surrounding the Impreza and in my 11 months of ownership experience, with not ONE negative comment, seems entirely a Scoobynet members problem. From some of the opinions I’ve read, it would seem that my pride and joy is an old nail with dodgy import history and very unfashionable wheels, quite contrary to the large amounts of admiring glances, favorable comments and looks of envy I regularly get. I work with kids all the time, they go mental when I drive up to work in my car, always makes me laugh. Chap asked me the other day if he could take a picture of his five-year-old boy sitting behind the wheel, put a big smile on the lads face for the rest of the day.
Then there is the bitching about Nova/Corsa boys in there souped up hot hatches. Leave them alone I say. Their cars are quite often a credit to them regardless of our opinions on style. I was always into bikes, not cars, but when I see an immaculate, lightly modified G reg Nova, I don’t laugh and point from behind the wheel of my infinitely superior Subaru Impreza. I see a young lad who obviously puts a lot of time, money and effort into keeping his car pristine. Just like me, he is buying the best he can afford and looking after his investment to a high standard.
I, like most, have always wanted a sports car. Porche, TVR, Ferrari, Lamborghini etc. These cars are always going to be beyond my dreams, so it is credit to Subaru that people like me can own a car that delivers so much for a comparatively small cost.
The Subaru Impreza Turbo is an all time classic and I feel very privileged to own and drive one, regardless of the age of it and what anyone else thinks.
There. Got it off my chest at last.

Personally I think as long as you're happy with your car then that's all that matters. I think all subaru's are nice looking cars, if I was brave enough I'd buy myself one! As for the boy racers in nova's etc, yes they are proud of thier cars, but they are annoying if you're out driving in your car, ( whatever make it is), and they suddenly decide it would be fun to floor it past you. Oh by the way I'm new so hi!

that is the only bit i wouldnt agree with.
I was there once upon a time with a Nova SR and cringe now at the thought
feel superior...fek it...they will once they upgrade

Very nicely put!
I work my *** off looking after my lil old Corsa. Sure I'd like something bigger and more powerful but for now, it's the best I can afford - and I'm happy with it!
Nothing worse than being tarred with the same brush!

A lot of people are not sure about imports. When i imported mine i was told it was a dog and people were determined to put imports down. Yes you do get the odd dog from Japan but 95% of them are better spec and better looked after than the cars can be bought over here.
Have you seen some of the subarus in auto trader! lol
I know i slate nova/corsa/saxo boys on the odd occasion. I used to own a little fiesta before and used to think it was nice.
I think the main reason people slate these guys is you do get the odd nice one which is very well looked after and very tidy (ive seen novas with 2.0litres, absolutely immaculate and bloody quick). BUT ive seen loads of novas etc that are just a state.
Most people who own novas etc try to modify their car but dont take pride in their car so they will put a spoiler on or a subaru scoop on the front but they forget about all the marks and rust on the rest of the car! lol
Most novas etc are not looked after well and thats why they get picked on. You do get the odd one that is occasionally nice.
Just my view

Having said that, I think it's part of being human to try to belong to a group and then when you're in that group everyone else sucks. It's the same as in school, except we're adults now...
To everyone who does **** like that, stop it. You're pathetic
(no, i don't drive a nova. Drive my girlfriends clio 1.2, and from the 2nd of august a MY03 WRX, but that won't make me think badly about cheap hatch back drivers)

Most of the time I kind of like the reputation and its funny in the pub as everyone thinks you are a bad boy with a bad car (bad being good LOL or is a phat car LOL sorry over 30 and cant understand the teenagers anymore ) .
This is until they get to know me and realise I am boring and a scooby anorak .

Just think what a boring old world it would be if we all had the same tastes and we all settled for the same car etc.
It is " Each to his/her own"....don't put someone down because YOU don't like the car they drive.
Life is too short for all that...look at me...I had a Saxo VTR before my Scoob!!!
But in saying that......I have owned a MK1 RS 2000 for the last few years also......Nuff Said!!

Oz555 - agree with every word you have said.
Everyone says to me 'Get gold rims on it, they'll look cool', but on here gold rims are slated.
As for boy-racers, I have fun racing them - many Novas/Astra etc are surprisingly quick - there's a 260 Bhp Astra on For Sale forum now, that would kick most scoobies *** in a straight line. It's all good fun anyway - I respect anyone who puts the effort into their motor, it's just not always my taste - but to each their own.

Nice 1 OZ555, as you can see there are a lot of people on here that share your views.
There are novas / corsas etc that I look at and think that maybe they would better off not doing / adding certain things to their cars nut I'm pretty sure we all have done silly things in our lives!!!!!
& rather than them try to race me I have tended to find that they show me maximum respect and wont even attempt to try in on with me!! Its usually people in Porsches, TVRs etc tha try it on - those that are supposed to know a lot better!!!
Plus I'm not proud I've gone from:-
mini city to
escort sport to
xr3i to
highly modded rs turbo to
lighly modded MR2 Turbo to
Impreza Type-R
I doubt any1 has bought an inpreza as their 1st car!
From humble beginnings thats wot I reckon - just my 2p worth and congrads to OZ555

I'm currently driving a tank of a Vectra Diesel and am sick of getting my *** whipped by the young un's in their Novas and Saxo's. So, on Monday when I get my first Scoob (MY95 WRX import), I shall take great joy in whipping their asses and showing them a real car. What I can't understand is where they get all the dosh from to soup them up, good look to them tho.

don't agree with the comment about the nova boys ect, most of the car are crap badly modded and look awful.
why the fek stick £2000 of ICE , a £1500 body kit and flip paint on a feking 1.2 nova then drive it like your richard burns in the rally of GB everywhere ?
save your money and buy a much better car.
my first car was a new j reg escort rs 2000 stage 2 tuned rally car and from then i just got better and faster cars but like i said on another post my dad made sure i could drive them well and correct fek ups.
i was in the car factors yesterday to pick up some stickers
two lads walk in and asked for 3m2 of window tint as they had "loads of air bubbles in the last lot" this was the 3rd time they had tried tinting the windows themselves spent £130 on tinting film and remover why?
it only cost me £180 to have the back of the scooby tinted.

Think it's obvious here that a lot of people have their own different tastes and opinions. It's the same old story though of the selected few spoiling it for the masses and before you know it everyone gets tarred with the same brush.
Most people, like myself, have probably started with humble cars and progressed towards even better things over the years. Think back to when we all started driving and I'll bet most of you started off with small hatchbacks that were your pride and joy at the time.I even started with a 1.2 Nova with manual choke when I was 17. Then had an xr2i, xr3i(130 bhp model), Escort GTI and now a P1. Hope that gives me some credability with my comments in this thread as that covers both sides of the debate.
Looking back, that Nova was a death trap, but I've moved on and grown up since then like many other people. Rep man and white van man are more of a menace on the road than most so called boy racers in their saxo's etc IMHO. It's the ones that are gathering and doing burnouts, handbrake turns etc on the public highway that are giving the young team a bad name. (just my opinion b4 I get flamed). Also, the other day I had a Max Powered Corsa trying to cut me up and race me in my P1 and just thought to myself behave young man...
Anyways, I think what's typed above reflects what Im trying to say(I hope) and should cover both sides of the argument without insulting anyone. If it does then I appologise upfront folks. Happy motoring whatever you drive.
Cheers

oz ur spot on. i've been reading scoobynet for around 6 or 7 months now and i get sick of all this sheeite about corsa's and nova's being modified and looking stupid. i find it very funny when they slag off people who have put wide arched kits on there nova's and bonnet scoop's as it seems a bit moronic to me cause in the styling section theres a guy doing a wide arched kit for the impreza so how exactly does that makes you's any different from them.also carbon fibre sti8 bonnet scoops for classics COME ON like impreza's are no more than rice rockets to me anymore as i've seen so many badly pathetically modified ones on here

jjm555, you ask where we get our money from to mod our hot hatches, i work 7days a week for my ££ to spend on my saxo, and before anyone slates me, all that ££ is currently going on my new engine.
Tis nice to see people respecting other peoples efforts for a change, we cant all fork out £15k in one go unfortunally

well put
unfortunately, with a population of nearly 28.5K people , you're bound to have differing opinions.
I do find it rather bemusing that a Subaru enthusiasts' forum spend most of it's time slagging off it's own
It boils down to no matter what you drive, ask yourself these questions:-
1. Are you happy with your car?
2. Do you really give a toss what a load of virtual-reality people think of your car? are they real people to you?
3. If you don't own a Scooby, when circumstances allow, will you consider owning a Scoob?
Strange quetsions, I know, but I'm VERY "Pro"-Scooby.
I'm now on my second, and my next car will be a Subaru. For ME the car can't be beaten for price, reliability, performance, and safety. I spent the afternoon, cleaning and polishing my MY99 yesterday. It costs a fortune eahc month to run, but I looked at it after my graft, and grinned. That's without even getting in a driving it!!!
I find myself agreeing with you though, the biggest problem with the Impreza's image, is certain opinions voiced on ScoobyNet....
However, I leave myself open to a flaming - PLEASE prove me wrong.

i think my Impreza is the dogs bollox, well you would wouldnt you.
Strange thing happened a couple of days ago, i was driving down the highstreet, it was swarming with people. I look in my nearside mirror to see a 50 year old bloke step out into the road and take a photograph of my car, with a big grin on his face. Cracked me up.
You certainly cant be mistaken for an econobox driving a Sonic Blue STi with Gold Wheels.

Spot on oz555!
I was going to write a similar piece a few days back but thought i would get slaughtered.
The image bashing of the Impreza on this SCOOBY WEBSITE is a joke. Seven months ownership, and no negative comments at all. All ultra positive. Infact sometimes i feel sheepish about ownig one, cos some people are very envious. Slagging off the Imprezea is a huge insult to those of us who own one, AND those less fortunate who for whatever reason (insurance etc) can't afford one.
Fair points regarding novas etc as well. Lets face it, we are all boy racers deep down!

a poem from the X
I love your subaru I'll have one just like it some day
I loved my nova but not in the same way
But it's all i can afford on my lousy pay
I love your subaru I'll have one just like it one day
I love your subaru god it's so nice
I loved my cavalier but it got beaten at all the lights
I put on some big wheels even though money was tight
I love your subaru god it's so nice
I love my scooby i got it today!
It's everything I hoped for in every single way!
I love to see other scoobs driving around all day
But I will alway still love YOUR subaru like i did that day

The scooby is undoubtably a great peice of engineering, and an absolute cracker of a car! No-one is disputing that... AND the forum is good for all car owners, as it is entertaining, and it has a large spread of peeps for views, etc. What is wrong though, as people have said is the attitude towards other cars! other cars on here get a constants barrage of stereotypes, and bad press, and unfortunatly, it is giving scooby owners a bad name! They are seen, (rightly or wrongly) as arrogant and cocky, not becoause of the car, but the attitudes portrayed on this forum. In the flesh, you are probably fine, and wicked peeps, but the gang up on saxos, etc, is way out, and needs to be curbed. It has been said before, and will be said again. The younger kids CANNOT afford a high performance car. The insurance will just rape them. And before anyone says about the big money put into the cars, they are more than often done over a long time, not on a single splash of cash! So... It is not a critisism of imprezas, but a critisism of the attitudes by the drivers in their portrayla of other marques drivers!
(Apologise for the rants, but I know a lot of these people, and I know how much effort they put into their cars, and the saving that they do, and they certainly do not deserve the roastings they get in here! They are just as enthusiastic about cars as you guys, they just haven't the capitol to get something they would love to have. As for the kits etc, i agree, they are not to my tatse, but then agin, its not my car, so who cares?)

Spot on I reckon..... I have to say that personally I am no different from the Redline and Max Power Boys... In fareness I still buy them every now and then just to get a Fix... Mind you if the truth be known it's probably more to look at the T!ts.. But there in lies the truth. I'm sure that i am not alone. I'm a "Lad" !!!! If some of the critics would take the time to sit and read what goes into making some of these motors what they are today, then I doubt anyone could fault the dedication to a cause... Even if we fear now that the cause may be flawed.
I started out life with an MG Metro turbo... Only cos my Dad had a few Quid. After the usual array of XR Machinery I will never ever forget the feeling of total pride and elation I fealt when I got my C Plate Mk 3 RS Turbo... And what was the first thing i wanted to do.... Lower it, put bigger feet on, RSOC Stickers etc etc etc...
Bottom line is I reckon we've all been there and got that T-Shirt. Best of luck to them I say....
Here endeth the first Lesson...
Now after that moment of adult reflection I'm off to go and type cobblers in some more threads... Geez You don't wanna go growing up or anything stupid like that eh...
