PPP static noise test - Airfield Day
#1
Am booked to have my first airfield day at the end of August with Motorsport Events (Bassingbourn).
By then, my WRX03 PPP should have arrived and been fitted and my question is - will I have problems with the noise regulations of:
103dB(A) at 0.5 metres at 3/4 max revs.
Anyone?

you will not have a problem with your WRX PPP at a trackday, i have attended 2 days, once at bedford when all hell broke loose about noise levels and they lowered the noise level to a very low level, that was in a MY00 PPP and i have just attended croft with my STI8 PPP and there were no problems at all

not that I would ever take my my01 PPP on an airfield, but theoretically, if I did then it would have measured 85db and would have theoretically had bits over the number plate like this:
oh. I blanked out the stickered up numberplate in the graphics program. oh well, here's the photo anyway:

oh. in case anyone has a wisecrack along the lines that I'm still saving up for the scoobysport right hand side lowering kit; or, have parked on a small farm animal. Or perhaps have set up the suspension for extreme left hand cornering....
I was just having a breather from changing the tyres - and just happened to be at bassingbourne when i did it. of course, the car never ever went on the track. oh no siree.

It is not 100% definate that IM invalidate warranties because of trackday use.
I, for one, was never quiet about my trackday adventures, nor the modifications that I made. I did not, however, claim on warranty any item that may or may not have been unduly affected by track day action.
My modifications did not include things that would put additional stress on either the engine or gearbox or transmission other than what was designed to be transmitted through them, ie not full de-cat, dawes device, bigger turbo, injectors or whatever.
The only known instance of cancelling warranty that has been reported on this bbs was at last year's SIDC National Event when someone, who had a full decat + dawes, was informed his warranty was no longer valid.
IM have never commented on this, nor said definitively what is allowed/isn't. Therefore there is no definative black & white. I personally think that this shows an amount of reasonableness in this matter, but people who push that boundary (severe engine mods) may put their warranty in jeopardy.
This is all based on my own experience over the last 4 years of scooby ownership & life on this bbs...
Oh & PTMW! with PPP was not one of the scoobs that had to withdraw at the BA November track day due to excessive noise...

I heard that occasionally certain IM employees have visited our track days and noted reg no's etc and when people have gone back to there scooby dealer for warranty work they have found that there warranty is void.
In my opinion, IM are a pain in the *** and I don't think the dealers are too chuffed with them either.
I have also heard that IM's contract for the Subaru franchise is up for renewal, so fingers crossed they might not get it because apparently Subaru Japan (Fuji Industries) are looking at taking over the UK operation, oh and also this might mean we will get official spec C STI's.

My also car STi7PPP sailed through at Castle Coombe and the Noise rucksions at the dreaded Day at Bedford
The term 'ABUSE' in the Warranty agreement could mean on or off the Track (Officailly should be seviced once per year/10Kmiles mine is done 3 times)
IMHO, IM don't want either
A) undue Warranty claims for non supported Modifications (ie 600Bhp and broken gearboxes)
B) Poor visibilty at driver improvement days at events like TRAX 150> Scoobs on track at TRAX2001 and 10< at TRAX2002 after the Donno episode
Tony
Ps Enjoy your Car and be sensible

Excuse my ignorance but what Donno episode.
As I live round the corner from Donnington Park I intend to get the car on the track occasionally and don't want any nasty surprises if I have to make a warrenty claim.

"Donno incident" was when a chap went to Donno on National Day, had a blast round the track & then whilst he was later in the paddock, someone came up to him & asked him about his car. He had full decat & dawes & told the person this.
He shortly thereafter was notified by his garage that his warranty was no longer valid.
Sub 5
Is that the same person as above or someone else? Also what were the circumstances and what reasoning given & what modifications had they done?
& it is Wagon not Dragon!

Is that anywhere near Bassingbourn Barracks, only I was based there for a while and it had a massive airfield attached to the barracks that we used to run round.

the picture is at bassingbourne barracks - well, just on the airfield side of the fence. Ed Moore (who owns MotorSports Events) has a contract with the MOD to run trackdays at airfields in the south of the UK. very well disciplined events. I like them.
regarding the Donno incident. I was sold my car by Town & Country Perth after driving most of their vehicles around Knockhill race circuit. I was *sold* the car based on the track experience! would seem rather ridiculous if IM were really cancelling warranties based on trackday usage.

RD,
The general opinion here is IM canceled Warranty only because of "Trackday Modifications" and not because of "Trackday use"
IMHO
Otherwise there would be 5000's Scoobs without warranty's not 2 or 3
