Hi all im in the process of painting my calipers with the old caliper paint, but would like some advice if anyone has used the stuff

1) is it best to remove the caliper from its mounts, and remove the pads, or can it be done in situ?

2) it says mix up only what you need... ok but how much do i need to de say two calipers at a time? what ratio do i mix in this case

3) how easy is it to apply, and what happens if i ***k it up?? is it easy to get off


any help would be appreciated

Have a look in the brakes section.

You can leave the calipers on, just take the wheels on.

Regarding the mix up, i just got the kit from Halfords and mixed it all up and then chucked the rest away when i was finished

I did mine, wheels off, calipers and pads on, with Hammerite red,(smoothrite).

Calipers off if you don't mind messing about.Calipers on if you want paint dripping on your discs(keep a clean rag handy).Mix up twice as much hardener as reccomended and it dries twice as fast.

GREEN SCOOBY

calipers off with green hamerite and a real pain in the **** and boring,look nice though but dont think i could be arsed to do it again.

Just done mine with halfords high temp engine enamel in satin black,£5.99.

Wash down with brake cleaner,brush paint on two layers,cotton bud and thinners to clean paint off the white subaru logo,leave 24hrs

Painted on the vehicle,good as new

Hi Mart,

I have used the proper kit in the past, but the last couple of cars iv'e done i have used Car Plan heat resistant paint only £2.99 a tin, available at most car shops. It is just as good if not better than the proper stuff (why that's the proper stuff i don't know). On my scooby i didn't even undercoat them 3 coats and they are well covered, i also did it with the calipers on but took out the pads. When they are looking a bit shabby then 6 months later couple more coats and they are gleaming again.
I also wax them now and they come clean dead easy.

Used Foliatec from halfords on my last three cars, painted them with the calipers on the car (just with wheels removed). Excellent results and lasts ages. Just mix half of the paint and then half of the hardner for the 1st two, and when you get round to doing the last two...same procedure.

The Halfords paint is easy to use, no mixing, and I did it with the calipers installed. Just take it slowly with a smallish brush.

Painted on the car with Smooth Hamerite (2coats)

When I did mine, I painted over the Subaru letters and then with a sanding block and 1200 wet and dry paper, lightly sanded over the raised letters, taking care not to sand the caliper itself.

After a while the white Subaru letters reveal themselves and if you keep sanding you can go past the white and go right back to the metal for silver letters. (Which I did) Then apply spray laquer and they are done!

it was a bit of a ball ache doing the lettering, i was going to get the bird to do it as she has nail painting expertice... But i bit the bullet and did it my self...

I just used normal white hammerite...
