Question

Trying to bend my gaffers ear to get me some goodies from the ole Nippon when she goes over on business later in the month. Hmm thinks i in the failure to torment her to take me as well what goodies can i get out there that will be cheaper & given she is moaning about not wanting to carry owt stoopid & car related back what's the story with sending it in the post or something as a "gift" i seem to recall that avoid some taxation somewhere dopwn the line
Anyone any experiance or cunning plans with doing this from Japan?
& Suggestions for goodies if you will?

Thumbs up

Go to the Sony shop at the central crossroads on the Ginza and have a look at all the leccy goodies that we won't be getting for at least 5 years here in the west, and then go to Akhihabara where you can buy most of it really cheaply. Easier to carry than a twin scroll turbo

My partner literally came back from Japan.

Depends where he is willing to go.

we got a shed loads of defis, they are well cheap!! They are also the black face new ones.

Generally all things are cheaper. But i wouldnt bother with things you can buy in UK

I got loads of things from Zerosport for my scoob. The kit consisted of a Alu radiator cooler and intercooler splitter.

Other things such as stickers, logos etc are worth next to nothing.

If you want details of where to go. Drop me a mail

Cool

So where can you get the ECU's from then
My main problem is she isn't wanting to go anywhere really so ideally i need somewhere/thing which i can order from & get delivered to her hotel or whatever & then post to me as a gift if that works out cheaper any thoughts on getting it here cheap like that anyone?

just be careful carrying lots of spare parts that look like they could be made into bombs - forget the ecu's then!

Cheers m8 i recall looking round their site before, but my main question is still would i be getting charged additional tax if i ordered direct from them in Japan & they sent it to me over the possibility of someone getting it from them while in Japan & sending as a gift (dont even know how you do that do u just scribble this is a gift officer on the outside)

Yokohama is miles away from Central Tokyo. I think you are on a hiding to nothing. As someone wrote above, just send her to Akiharbara for the best gadgets on the planet. And as for it been cheap.....I dont think so. Ive lived in Tokyo for over 2 years and the only thing that is cheap are the local women and cigs......everythng else shocking.

Just got back from Japan and posted some items back for myself. Don't bother writing gift on anything as the courier has to declare the goods to customs and pay the import duty. When the courier then knocks on your door they ask you to pay them the duty they have paid customs or they take the goods away. I brought some goods back with me but they were under the £140 limit so customs were not interested but I still had to show them the receipts otherwise they would of charged import duty based on some sliding scale.

I found that the elec' stuff in Tokyo was not as far ahead of Europe as I was expecting. Mainly stuff is getting smaller, such as Walkmans but nothing stood out over there as being very different to what we have.

Some elec' stuff was much cheaper, for example I picked a Gameboy Advance SP up for £25 compared to the uk prices of £70-85. But you have to take into account no warranty so on many items such as video cameras the savings were not much.

Cheers so advice of "I often get packages from Jap, just tell the sender that he has to claim the value of the sent item below US$25 and then he has to write a short description on the green toll sheet on the package, just write "gift" on it." i was given elsewhere is BS i was sure i had read about "gifts" being tax exempt previously so is this definately a no go?

I only talk from my own experience, I used UPS to send my packages and they said that I would have to pay import duty on the goods I sent. Have a look here it explains it all.
