You shouldnt catch the arches with 17"s and 215/40 tyres!

I've loaded my scoob (with 17"s and 215/40's) 4-up and a bootfull of cash and carry and never grounded or caught the arches.

Have you lowered it? If so, that's the problem (obviously).

Or you've been sold some wheels with an odd offset. Anyhoo, rolling the arches is probably the best way round it, unless you want to swap your wheels again.

Recently gone from 15" to 17" alloys (215/40 tyres), i find now with a 4 people in the car, the back tyres catch the arches when going over potholes/ coming out of a dips etc... Would stiffer springs solve this problem? If so which ones and where do i get them? Being told rolling the wheel arches can be rather expensive! Cheers

 

Rolling the arches is not that expensive, about £40-60 an arch. I run 18's on 225/35/18 and get lots of scrubbage but hey thats the price of bad assed alloys!!

For some reason my right rear seems to rub more than the left??

 

Get them rolled, alot cheaper than buying diff springs and getting them fitted.

Simb, wouldn`t say ALOT cheaper to get arches rolled, you can buy Eibachs for £150 and wouldn`t cost more than £100 to fit em at a guess. And then you don`t have to worry about yer arches rotting to f**k if someone does a bad job

 

Abbylad, your proberly right in most cases but my arches started to rust so had most of the lip cut out and the rest rolled.
One of the disadvantages of owning a JDM car.

My 17's with 215/40 ET48 an accepted offset, rub under full load.

Solved by removing the arch trim, or in my case cutting the trim and just removing the offending piece when I need to.

When you say right rear, is that looking at it or sitting in it?

Interested so the info is Near Side Rear is the side nearest the curb when driving along a UK road & Off Side Rear is the side furthest away - equates to passenger side & driver side respectively.

Why? Well, Mr Lewis (David) was kind enough to donate some oversize slicks to me, which I duly felt bound to test Me, on my own, there was no rubbing but as soon as Mr Dave T-S cadged a lift as a passenger, we got major rubbage on the Near Side Rear (passenger side). Not saying D T-S is a fat b@rstard at all ( ) but it was strange that equiv loading on my side (Off-Side) around a corner produced none

So, if yours was near-side then maybe that indicates a problem that might be worth investigating...

Only my NSR(as you describe)rubs, I've only had to do the trim mod on that side.

I put it down to the fact that a particular dip in the road which regularly gives me grief, is worse nearer the curb edge of the road. Mine doesn't rub on cornering I'm obviously not trying hard enough
