Hi scoobynet people looking to get a impreza soon
and what better place to get info is from scoobynet i have viewed the forum for a while and its great. so the more info the better on the running costs of a scooby turbo iam looking at MY98 99 2000
models,
1 fuel costs
2 services
3 parts
4 insurance ( iam 27 with 4yrs ncb)

Welcome to the board.
In answer to your queries, I'll give you my answers
1 £40ish for 230 miles (city driving) approx 20 mpg. 28mpg on a run.
2 Main dealers are dear, but there are more and more independent Scooby specialists who have much cheaper prices
3 See 2 above
4 I pay £1000 F.C. I am 25 with 7 years NCD with my 26 yr old wife and a Glasgow post code

Thank you talizman i didnt think i would get a response until the morning,i thought they where more expensive to run on the same level as the mitsi evo's what insurance group is the impreza

What should i look to pay for a MY 98-99-2000 impreza
on the autotrader all you see are scoobys with high miles and in green, and a friend advised me not to get a green impreza as its not a desired colour

My turn
1. Optimax at 82.9 x 60ltr tank = 50 quid (300 miles)
Now that works out at around 2760 quid per annum for 10k's
worth of driving, more if you do alot of town driving
(3320 quid per annum at 250 miles per tank).
2. Services vary depending on what needs replacing but as a rule
of thumb you have one cheap (100 quid) service per year
which is basically an oil change and one expensive service
(anywhere from 250-550+ quid) per year depending on mileage
(services are mileage/age dependent and are set at 7.5k, 15k
22.5k, 30k, 37.5k, 45k, 52.5k, 60k and there is a "biggie"
at 90k or 6 years as it incorporates both the 30k and 45k
services).
3. Not cheap, but dont skimp on these either or you could suffer
in the long run
4. Depends on your area also, i have an M postcode and pay 900 f/c
per year on an MY00 PPP'd and some other modifications to my
car and im 34, full (9 yrs) NCB, with protection and 400
excess. A tracking system will be required by most insurance
co's so take note!

Less of the green not being a desirable colour indeed. Cheeky newbie.
As for running costs....... If you're too worried about it don't buy one.
I have an MY98 Turbo Wagon (in green). Had it for 18 months now. Running costs, are about 30-40p/mile all in with insurance servising etc during that period. I'll check tonight at home an edit the post to put the exact figure in.
Servicing can be dear though, cheapest so far £130, dearest so far £500. Next service (75k miles) will be about £200.
As for insurance. I'm 31yrs, Full NCD, low risk post code (nr. Cambridge) with wife on policy (who has had 3 claims in the last 4 years in her own car), cost £730 with a few minor mods declared (spoilers, exhaust and wheels). It was £620 prior to declaring the mods.
As for fuel economy, MY99 onwards has the next engine phase from MY98, and will driven in the same manner give a few more mpg per gallon. I never get better than 28mpg from my car, typically it is more like 25-26mpg with a mixture of driving.
A friend and I took our Scoobys to France at Easter. I got 28mpg from the MY98 (motorway cruise 80-85mph with a few sprints), and he got 32mpg from his MY01 driven the same. Both run on standard 95 RON fuel.

No such thing as a cheap scooby!! Tyres all around anually, 6km miles service interval (MY00), front pads every 24 months. High tax/insurance/fuel..........In my opinion, worth every penny!!

2 Bit of a pain every 6 months, just had 90K done at £800.
3 So far heat sheild £150, Lambda £200, rear pads £115 (all fitted).
4 insurance also 27 with 4yrs ncb, £960 with named driver 26yrs protected.
p.s. done 25000 miles in 2 years and tyres still look new.

iam waying up the pro and cons at the moment
still gotta talk my wife around to scooby thinking, like the backs doors are great for putting the kids in and out of
at the moment i have a cliosport 172 which does 36mpg
which is good and the performance is great
but i would love to have jap turbo power and the sound of the flat four is ace ,
