Want to get some work done to my new WRX but am a bit confused at the amount of conflicting info i'm getting from the various tuners that can perform the remap. Basically I want a full decat exhaust and Ecutek remap. I'm planning on taking the car to either: Power Engineering, Bob Rawle or Scoobysport. Problem is i'm being told different things by each of these firms.
Can anyone pls confirm or deny the following ?
Being told by Bob Rawle (well someone at his company in anycase) that if i go for a full decat system and an ECutek remap I'll also need a "3 port Boost Solenoid" at an extra £140. Neither PE or Scoobysport say I need this.
Merv at Power Engineering tells me I'll need to reposition the EGT sensor when going for a full decat or it'll melt. Neither Bob or Scoobysport feel this is necessary.

If anyone can tell me the answers to these questions i would really appreciate it. Likewise if anyone wants to comment on similar work (remapping and decatting) that any of these tuners have done then pls feel free.

Cool

IMHO: 3 port boost solenoid, many cars have been mapped via Tek3 and are running successfully with standard 2 port solenoids. However Bob has been mapping for years with great results and has great faith in the 3 ports extra ability to control boost.
EGT sensor. There seemed to be a small number of people who found their EGT sensors melting with uppipe/downpipe combo, but I'd guess the majority of people haven't had this problem, for safetys sake I guess PE suggest moving it to possibly save you a repair in the future.

I haven't said that the egt probe should not be moved, you would have spoken to branko not me, important thing there is to take care of the exhaust gas temperature, for as long as thats under control then its not a problem. A car with std headers/up pipe should be ok but if you change the up pipe to an aftermarket one then its for sure worth dealing with as it will fail eventually.

Three port is definately a benefit and strongly recommended but not insisted on if cash is tight ... I can equally map to the std two port, however boost control settings must be kept more conservative to avoid "incidents". All my maps are true custom maps which take advantage of a three port. Installation and conversion of the three port to mate with the factory wiring loom is included in its price of £140 inc vat.

Thumbs up

I have had my car mapped using the Ecutek product by both Bob and previously Mervyn/Stephen Done.

If I were to be starting all over again, I would go straight to Bob, as the things he did (with a three port solenoid) have made my car an absolute joy to drive.

Integrale - it seems that you will always get conflicting information from the various suppliers but ultimately you will have to go with your gut instinct.

As much as anything it comes down to customer service, if they can get that right then you stand half a chance of getting the right system.

I've just called BR Developments based on the information in this thread and had a really odd conversation with some bloke who didn't seem to want to know. I didn't even get past the first of my queries regarding up/down pipes before he was recommending I go to Scoobysport or Hayward and Scott! Weird...

Sennadog - LOL i spoke to the same guy and I know what you mean. In all fairness after talking to him for a good 20 mins he didnt try and sell me anything i didnt need (which is more than most tuning companies) or push any of his own products (other than the remap) and told me who to go to for the parts I need (he also hinted at who not to goto). In all I think i'd rather talk to someone who'll give me straight answers, whether it's what i wanted to hear or not. To be honest I've had loads of work done to various Integrale's of mine over the last 10 years and subsequently have developed a 6th sense when sniffing out bull****ters and "yes men".
After talking to various firms I'll be using either Bob Rawles company or Scoobysport for my work.

L @ Sennadog... sounds like you had a conversation with Branko

I eventually chose to have my remap done with BRD, including the 3 port valve which was a cost i hadn't prepared for in my intial cost calculations, but i would definately recommend having this fitted if you can afford the extra .... the boost control is very stable with this in place, and i consider this one of the best mods done to my car so far.

Integrale, sure I don't mind directness but when someone clearly doesn't want to know then I don't waste my time. We didn't even get to the remap, alternative exhaust system, service and suspension goodies that I'm having done.

Good luck, anyway.
