Does anyone else have rust on the inside of the bootlid ? It's around the rubber stops thet stop the lid hitting the car ,and around the rubber bungs where the rear spoiler is fitted . It's not that bad but as the car is only 4 years old (MY99) I was just wondering if this is normal ?
Thanks
Dave.

Do you park on a hill ?
Sounds silly, but if you park nose down water collects around the rubber bungs (4 door I presume).
Park nose up and it drains away.
Only noticed after washing mine I put it away in the garage and water always pour out onto the back bumper !

scooby towers ...no I don't park on a hill (perhaps the last owner did though ) , but good spot , I always wondered why the rear bumper had water marks on it .I've removed the rubber bungs at the front now so I hope the water should drain .
Thanks for the reply .

I have a MY99, and there is surface rust around the boot area, where the boot lid meets the body work, two front rubber bump stops. When the car was new there used to be round plastic pieces to stop the rubber damaging the paint work they lasted about a year, then fell off, been rusty ever since, not getting any worse though. Sh1te paint work, must be all of 4 microns thick, keeps the weight down though.

Biggest problem is where the rubber stops fit into the boot lid itself, I guess water gets trapped there .Looks like a weak spot for the future (a bit like the tailgates on old Range Rovers...were always rusty )

Mine rusted on the lip around the boot (under the rubber seal) and everytime it rained I ended up with puddles in the tyre well and soggy carpets that seeped into the rear seats.

Mine's got rust there too. I've painted on some hammerite (very similar colour availabe to DGM) and it seems fine now. Was on mine when I bought it. It's an MY97, btw.
