I'm kind of set on going for a PPP'd MY03 WRX (see About to take the plunge...Maybe) but maybe you guys can come up with other ideas..

I've got 24-25K to spend on an Impreza. I currently drive a Honda Civic 1.8VTi, not bad but a bit boring. In order of priority (sort of) what I want is...

1) Something that's going to give a great ride without having to drive it to it's limits
2) Something I'm going to enjoy taking down country lanes that won't put me through a hedge if I put a foot wrong.
3) Something that's not going to deafen me on a long Motorway run
4) Something that's not going to shake my fillings out or cost me a new wheel if I hit a pothole.
5) Something with full UK warranty & servicing support
6) Something I could take my granny to the shops in without frightening her to death.
7) Something I could take a mate out to the shops in and frighten to death :-)
8) Something that'll cost less than 1500 quid to insure

Impossible? What would you do?

I think you'll find a 22b will cost more than £1500 to insure, and you'd better hope you never need a body panel

Saw a nice looking 22B (aren't they all) for sale at 24K, http://www.findit.co.uk/cars/subaru/impreza/688076.htm.

1/2 of me says 'go for it' other half says 'you'd never make the most of it!'. Looking around could get a 2003 WRX + PPP for < 20K. Hmm, maybe 2nd hand wouldn't be so bad if milage was low. At least I wouldn't have to potter around for 2000 miles before I could have some fun with it!

Still very tempted to go for 2003 model tho, better interior trim and warranty. Don't really like the look of the bug eyed models, although it looks like they're going for good prices. Older models look better IMHO but I'm worried about mileage and the fact they've probably been well spanked. Mind you, I'd imagine they're build for hard use so maybe it's not a problem. Hmmm.

I'm an old git, 36, living in Herts. Insurance quotes on PPP'd WRX's and STi's been around 1000 to 1600.

If I had 24K waiting to buy a scooby, then I would go for 22B but that's my opinion..

There's a couple for sale under the SALE section... worth considering...

Had a look at the Soarer, not too keen on the looks but performance seems quite reasonable. Cough.

Nah, still thinking I want a Scooby. Probably still go 03 WRX, maybe s/h though. I suspect once bitten by the scooby bug a possible change to 22B like monster in the future. Maybe the Mr's, as she will be in a year or two, will have a sensible car rather than an FTO and I can make practicality less of an issue for my car!

porsche boxter - less depreciation but even cheaper solution if you are into this car is just to take a course in hairdressing and get loser tatooed on your forehead.

to be honest with that money either blag yourself a discount or save up a bit more and get a new Sti PPP - or spend a lot less on a nice old scooby. if you cant afford more than 25K dont get a difficult car like a 22b get a mint 15K scooby and put the rest in the bank for servicing parts lager etc.

I have no idea why your insurance quotes are so high - I have 3ys no claims, 33 yr old, park on the street in zone 1 and got my Sti8 ppp done through tescos for 800 quid

get a brand new STI with PPP from litchfield imports or somewhere similar. You still get the same 3 year warranty as a uk car but can have the ecutek remap etc all in your budget.

failing that i would go for a second hand sti 5 or 6 type r but thats just me and no warranty on that. (could always pay for a third party warranty)

Skyline is the only thing worth thinking of. I haven't read any of your criteria, nor do I care, beacuse if you have that sort of wedge, you need to get an A1 R33.
