scooby for me lady

we have been looking around at first cars for my woman (puntos, fiestas, corsas) but i have come to the decision that maybe a 1.6gl, 1.8gl or a 2.0gl impreza would be a much better car than the cr@p listed above, what do you all think of the slower imprezas? are they any good?
we have insurance quotes so this isnt a problem, just wondering what you all think of the cars in general.

Not a bad advert I'd say.

I had a Sport before getting a Turbo. Yes, it's reliable and looks like a Turbo, but not everyone wants the attention. Leans more in the corners (softer springs) and fuel economy isn't great.
I loved it and it's a good intro to the Impreza (if she wants to go on to get a turbo). If not, there are better cars around for the money. As usual, it all depends on what you want and why. If she's got no NCB then a 2 litre car (of any sort) is going to be relatively expensive.
Just don't buy her a Corsa....

IMHO you are not on a bad thing - one thing's for sure, I'd prefer my significant other to be in a solid box like an Impreza rather than the rather less so others mentioned above (no flames please, we are talking "relatively" here). I drive a Legacy myself for that reason (although the other half has a Skyline ).
Fuel economy may be worse than the others, but the call is yours (that balance/handling/AWD in crummy weather is a nice to have too). More efficient and decently safe/solid motoring is available in other brands too of course...

Kille- If your other half likes them and it's going to be her car then surely that's all that counts?
Look on the positive side, any female who likes Impreza's is worth having and yes it's a step on the turbo ladder.
I'd find the Sport hideous in the power stakes that's all, but then It's not for me!
Reliability wise I 'm sure the Sport would be a decent enough proposition though.

If I could'nt have a turbo - it would be a sport, not the 1.8 or 1.6 (deffo underpowered).
Enough power, safe and AWD which is what we need up here. Unless you have a jeep thingy. Horses for courses m8, but don't think you'd go wrong with a sport.
IMHO
Alas

I have a 52 plate Mica Blue 2.0L GL 5 Door for sale. It has yet to cover 3500 miles and I am willing to do a good deal so I can go out and buy the missus an MPV.
We have a 3Yr old boy and the good lady is expecting TWINS!!!
The car is as new.... One careful lady owner.
I have been offered 10k as a part exchange - willing to consider any sensible offer above this value. Cost me £14995 in October of last year.
PLease get in touch if you are interested.

cheers,
Mak.
PS - Please be quick - Twins due any time now and I have to get the MPV!!!

i know what you meen, i have a turbo, but she likes the look of the car and cant afford to insure fast ones until she has some ncb, surely this must be a cheap way to get her foot on the scooby ladder.
dont forget we wouldnt take a step bacwards but she is trying to work her way up.
are the cars cr@p or do you just not like them?
