I don't know how you managed to buy a brand new car and not receive any information regarding running-in, initial 1000 mile service and subsequent service intervals. Very strange - almost suspicious.

This stupid thread gets dafter. Here are the facts: When buying any new Subaru, but especially an import, the owner must guess when to service the car, but it is quite obvious that the first service comes after 28,000 miles, then after 29,345 miles, then 112,000 etc.

Copy of e-mail received this morning from Dutch dealer regarding this very subject!

The oil that is the engine is a special "running inn" oil that can stay in
the engine till the first service by 10.000 mls.
We put always a (AVIA) 10-W-40 oil into the car. Every Oil that say 10-W-40
must be have the same specifications.
That is a standard agreement all over the world.
You can ask also your local Subaru dealer what he prefer in the car.

Dealer also told me verbally 1000 mile service like UK not needed but to change it at 7500km then 15000km.

Is Mobil 1 Motorsport 15-50w OK to use after running in oil?

Andy.

mine's a uk wrx and the 1000 mile service cost only £35 cos subaru do not charge for the labour on the initial service. for the sake of that amount of money GET IT SERVICED - my engine seemed to feel looser and more responsive a couple of hundred miles after the service.

but does this free labour offer apply to non uk cars? even if it doesn't GET IT SERVICED, what's the harm in getting it serviced and sticking some magnatec in?

Dear Sir/ Madam

New Impreza WRX Registration xxxxx xxx (xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)

I note that you ask for the original sales invoice from the country of origin. I bought the car new in the UK in Pounds Stlg and I enclose

1. Copy of the original sales receipt.
2. Copy of the service manual indicating the PDI was carried out in an EU Member state, presumably where it was shipped to from the manufacturer.

3. Copy of the EU certificate of conformity validating the VIN.
4. Copy sales invoice from the supplier in Holland to Supplier in the UK

If there is any additional information you require please do not hesitate to contact me.

The service schedule is printed in the Service and Warranty booklet I trust that this is the one to follow:
5000km (3,105) miles) 3 months
15,000km (9,315 miles) 12months
30,000km (18,630 miles) 24 months etc

Please can you inform me that my Warranty is registered and will be valid in the UK?

Thank you for your kind help

Yours sincerely

UK Service Garage
Don’t do any other servicing as it could be held against you, and anyway it’s not necessary as IM know what they are doing with service schedules.

scoobimax:

Some mixed up people in here, don’t know if they have a eu or uk car

follow the log book, I know what mine says.

Not gona service it and bugger my warranty, do what subaru says to the letter.

I figure that the 1000 mile service will be phased out and the eu service intervals will apply to all subarus in time.

Oils and build quality are so good these days the 1000 mile service will be a thing of the past.

Follow your service log book to the letter!

when i contacted my dealer in belgium they said follow the maintenance schedule in the handbook as the service record book is for all models.

my handbook states oil service at 1k thean again at 7.5k / 12months then the full serice at 15k / 12months.

all figures are in miles.

you car MUST be serviced after 1000 miles , the oil in the sump is of a thinner consistency that the normal oil , it catches all the swarf and tiny metal particles that come off from a wearing in engine , so do NOT wait till 10,000 miles!
