Now thats what I call a test drive!!
#1
Hi all,
Just returned from a visit back up to my folks in North East Scotland. I had some spare time on my hands so I popped into a Subaru Dealer to enquire about a test drive of the MY03 WRX, as I am looking for a new company car. The guy gave me the keys to a gorgeous blue wrx with a full tank of fuel and told me to be back in 4 hours!! Taking into account that I am only 26 I was amazed that he wasn't going to give me the usual 30 mins spin with him talking in my ear and being nervous.
What a amazing car, I was really impressed, its quick, but it was the way that it flew over the bumpy stuff was amazing. And as for the twisties......scared myself lol!!Came back grinning ear to ear, so, I will be ordering a WRX Wagon at the end of July!
Could do with a bit of advice as I am new to the world of the scooby though. I will be getting PPP as one of the options but I am wondering about the quick shift. Has anyone got this and is it worth while as the gears felt pretty tight on the demo car? I expect to go through my warranty miles fairly quickly and was wondering when this happens what I could do to the engine to make it into a beast?
Thanks for any help you guys can give me, my only worry is that I will want to move back to Scotland where the plauge of speed cameras is still in its infancy!!
Cheers
Mark

Interesting to know what insurance cover was really on offer on yer test drive
Bet if a claim had been made the insurance excess would be a few grand.
BET YOU DID NOT ASK OR CARE

I would deffo recommend getting a quickshift --> it's true that the standard gearing isn't exactly 'long', but the difference a true short-shift makes is awesome, to the whole feel of driving the car, making it feel (even) more sporting and immediate, one flick of the wrist (ahem) and you're off!!
I got a B&M from TSL and can only recommend it
looks the biz too!

tiggs: how do u manage to get a 48hr test drive, i'm having enuff trouble just trying to get a test drive of an 03 STI.
went to a honda dealer to t/d a civic type R, they wont even let u drive on normal roads/b roads, i had to sit in the passenger seat.
when dealer phoned me & asked if i was thinking of buying it, i said "wot buy a car that i only know how it feels on a 1/2 mile stretch of straight road, dont even waste my phone battery mate!!!"
a few months before i t/d a S2000 from the same dealership forecourt over lanes, m/way and A roads!!!!!
interested in how to get a car to t/d for a couple of days tho Tigg, so please tell all

Forget the quick shift. Put a momo gearknob on it for 40 quid and trouser the difference. I've put the momo on and it shortens the throw by a couple of inches. The gearbox feels better than my MY00 with GGR quickshift.
Cheers,
Nick.

....ok, so there are some doubters ....!!???
all I can say is borrow a mates car (or test drive one!) with a quickshift and you'll soon see. Makes driving the car a whole load more fun IMO
spoilsports!

I found the "quickshift" was well worth fitting. It makes the gear change much more positive and pleasant to use. It won't damage the gearbox at all. It's the way you use it that counts and you could damage a gearbox just as quickly with a standard gear lever if you misuse it.

48hr test drive....i just told them i wanted it!
i have always got at least 24 hrs on a new car, i assumed it was normal.
my last car, used TVR, i got an hour on my own....if they had said 10mins with dealer sat in the car i'd tell them where to go!
