i'm the proud owner of a new 03 wrx just had it acouple of weeks,
i filled it up with optimax its used 1/4 of a tank and done 130 miles for that 1/4, i was expecting it to be horrendous on fuel due to all the reports i have read,
is it maybe there are too many exagirationists that own thse cars, or is my scoob a freak.

Only 130 miles in a couple of weeks ...get out and have some fun !
You may find the fuel guage isn't linear and the second half of the gague drops like a stone ....enjoy

This topic was on the forum just a few days ago. I'll repeat my remarks; Yes, fuel consumption is far better than some would have us believe, and I am finding a huge improvement on my previous model, a non-turbo Sport Wagon. Some of this may be due to restrained driving during the running-in period, but even with some hard accellerating from time to time, I'm still getting good figures.
Your other point regarding exaggeraters, it does seem that this topic, and most others on this board, attract a few people who need to use extremes in order to make their point. Thankfully, the majority of us are content to stick to facts.

In my 99MY Turbo 5dr I could get (if I was lucky) 280 to the tank.

Recently swapped to a WRX03 5Dr and easily get 320 now.....

I've had my 03 WRX since Friday and done 315 miles. Nearly empty now though. However.....I'm running it in so no playtime yet. Be interested to see what I get after it's run in.

"Anorak on"

Subaru's Fuel Consumption Figures for 03 WRX.

Fuel Tank Capacity 13.2 gallons.

Urban . . . . 22.2 mpg (x 13.2 = 293.04 miles)
Extra Urban . 39.8 mpg (x 13.2 = 525.36 miles)
Combined . . .30.7 mpg (x 13.2 = 405.24 miles)

Just shows you what is possible if you try hard enough.

Bearing in mind these were obtained by driving in carpet slippers

Just driven from York to London and back today and got 32 going down and 30MPG coming back!!! This is far better than my old classic Turbo that never did more than 26 on the same journey.

Car is an 03MY with PPP, driving between 70 and 90ish most of the way, other than violent braking for the laser camera on a bridge overlookng the M40 this morning.

When I did my Luxembourg to England trip the other month I got 34mpg both ways. I was running the car in at the time so I wasn't going crazy.

I'm running Optimax. Fuel waring light comes on at about 310 miles. This compares to 270 in my classic.

I would say running costs about the same as I didn't always use Optimax in old car, whereas now it is strongly recommended.

WRX 03 PPP from new. 3,600 miles in one month MAY: best 28mpg, all M'way incl some running in. Worst 20.2 = 246 miles almost a full tank. Marvellous really with av. circa. 24! All Optimax except first few litres provided by dealer.

Fuel Warning Light! There's a thought - I'm just at the end of my very first tank of petrol (328 miles now) and the needle is very slightly above the empty mark. No warning light.

When does it come on and how much fuel is left when it does????

Do you guys drive like puffs?
My 02 wrx ppp used daily on business> 10000 miles in 4 months
best 23mpg - usually 20mpg.
same as my 98 turbo previously.
Why have one if 30/40 mpg is your goal - get a Mondeo and fall asleep!!!
