I have never had a jdm scoob, I cant comment on there performance or there quality in general.
They no appeal to me what so ever, But there seams to be a mad influx of these car, fueld by cheaper price and more bhp.

I can see however the appeal to others, But if you count the costs of owning a jdm against a uk model, Where does the practical side of owning either car start to differ.

Here we go!! This is not intented to provoke jdm/uk war, I would like some mature/adult/honest answers to the pros and cons of both models..

chris

There is no reason why a JDM car would be more expensive to maintain, with the number of specialists now out there it should be less expensive. The only area i see as a bigger expense is insurance.

the JDM has nice wee finishing touches that the DBM doesnt have. air con, folding electric mirrors, leccy windys all round, 260,280 or 300 ps depending on how old your JDM is. they are usually never raced as they are speed limited to 112mph (unmolested models of course). on the downside insurance seems to be higher for these models but again that is really dependant on age. mine is not too bad as 620 quid.

cheers

I have an STI5 TypeR and so far everything have been cheaper for me apart from the insurance.

I'm getting a standard 300bhp put through much shorter ratios so the acceleration is amazing. My car was cheaper to buy as I sourced it in Japan. Running costs are the same. I see no reason to get a UK car anymore.

The Jap cars are a much higher specification than the UK cars, and frankly, I find the performance of the UK cars a big let down. Not to say they aren't good cars, I just don't understand why they arn't built to the same standard as the Jap cars.

I have tried both, and I am deffinetly Jap all the way. My old 306 GTI-6 was quicker than a UK scoob. We can't have that now, hehehehe

Sinky
Uk cars do have leccy windows and air con.
Also no reason why a UK car has more reason to have been raced than a JDM car.

Gedi.
Have driven a GTi 6 and owned a 99MY. Scoob was quicker.

Guy near me is having some work on his JDM after an accident and has so far waited 8 weeks just for parts to arrive from Japan.

Theres pros and cons to everything, its just a matter of personal choice really.

Chip

Happy UK Sti7 owner with cheap insurance

the jdm imports are faster, higher spec cars. why wouldnt the insurance be more? and still subaru uk cant get it right by giving the uk market the same spec as the jdm for the same cost. import every time for me too.

Ive only ever had an Import with a second one on the way. Personally speaking, i wouldnt want a U.K car for a couple of reasons, for one, i can have close to 300hp straight out the box. Yes , they do have their downsides but these are slight niggles more than anything else. Im into my third year of ownership of JDM and there isnt anything thats put me off yet!
I can see why people like the U.K too, its all down to personal preferance i reckon and what you are used to.

Went from a 98 UK turbo which I thought was fantastic and still do until I drove an RA. I knew after 250 yards and 3 gear changes that the UK was going.

My advice dont drive one unless you intend on buying one .

MYOOWRXRAWRCLTD about 120 in scrabble LOL@chris

Thats another reason to go for a JDM model, probably the longest names in the motor industry.

Mine is Subaru Impreza WRX STi5 Type RA 555 WRC Limited

My question is when are people going to start importing the USDM 2.5 STi, as that is one hell of a car, and at $31K or £19K!! and 300BHP/300lb/ft with DCCD as standard out of the box, makes a mokery of the STi Type UK spec IMHO.

Thumbs up

<<<My advice dont drive one unless you intend on buying one>>>

That's EXACTLY what a peugeot dealer told me about UK Scoobs after I tried a 306 GTi6, and said it was tame. And that was in 1998.

As regards the USA cars, well they are beasts, but ONLY LHD, so am I missing something??

would be handy for my ocasional trips abroad.

From the reports i am getting from people who are "really" driving this car, it's stunning.

I wish soemone could give me a good reason why we dont have this car in RHD form, or for that matter a decent transmition system (DCCD-A) and 300BHP standard on the STi TypeUK.
