Certainly with older cars there are thin metal rods linking the door handle and lock barrel to the actual lock mechanism, so using a hook could bend these and unlock the door.
Or in some cases they could hook the button inside the door that opens the lock.
Modern cars however tend to have shielded locks in the doors (so the metal rods are not accessible) and deadlocks so that the interior lock buttons do nothing when the car has been locked from the outside.
Must say though that I don't honestly know whether the Scooby has either of those. I would expect it probably does, but I don't know.
(Glad I had a Cat 1 alarm fitted )

With a wire shaped the way that was they was probly going for the inside handle.
They would have made an attempt to pull open the top of the window/door and slide the rod through to open the handle.
Lets face it, if the wire is not yours and is under your car i would be very suspicious of the wire being there.

I second that , disclok ASAP ,even then expect some further 'interest' ,they may have been after stereo/glovebox full of cd's (maybe) bass box, amp, etc etc ,....
ps leave your glovebox open and empty, and disconnect interior boot release..
