From an e-mail I sent to a mate on Friday after the incident. Another mate's girlfriend was agrieved I might have injured the duck!

-----------------------

Had the most bizarre incident in the scooby today.

1) Pull out of t-junction in the lanes, hit throttle and brraaaaapppp down the road.
2) Oops a cyclist, slow to 15 mph (from lots)
3) Pull out to have a look around the bendy hill Mr cyclist is
proceeding down, no cars.
4) Slowly overtake Mr cyclist giving plenty of room and WTF....!!!!
5) ....
Two ducks are scared by Mr cyclist as he passes them and take to the wing, heading scoobywards. One of the little b'stards flew into the side of the car with bit of a knock/clonk... Feathers?!?!! Then I see both ducks still flying off behind me.

There are two/three suspiciously claw like marks in the paintwork just behind the front wheel and a splatter of runny duck **** over the sill extension!!!

F'ing ducks!

Look on the bright side, it wasn't a cow out for an afternoon walk that the cyclist spooked

You should come for a spin down in Oz to truly get back to nature!

To get to my parents place is a 12 hour 1,300km drive with the last part a 165km dash between town and their place. Unfortunately this part is either last thing at night when I'm going there, or first thing in the morning when I'm coming home - both of which are prime Kangaroo time.

I went down a couple of weeks back and in the last 50km had 8 near miss episodes with 'Roos try to join me in the car. They usually hang around on the side of the road because what little rain runoff there is makes the verges greener and tastier. When a car comes they take off away from the lights, then veer onto the road in front of the car at the last minute. If you can imagine hitting something that weighes in at 100kg, then you can imagine the damage they can cause to the front of the car.

The bigger problem is 'roos that have been hit by trucks or road trains (a semi towing 3 or 4 trailers). These simply leave the carcass of the 'roo on the road, which can also cause major damage to the underside of the car if you hit it.

That said, the most damage that I've had from nature is a cockatoo that I hit on my motorcycle that smashed the visor and top of my helmet.

Cheers

There's been some humour (mostly attempted...) from workmates.

The best one so far is to 'install an anti-knock drake' system....

My godfather was an army driver. He was driving his truck (5 tonner) along a road at about 80 km/h. A horse jumped over a hedge in front of them, the truck hit it just before it hit the ground and he and the passenger were killed.....

Be happy that the ducks were more surprised than you, judging by the duck****...

Look up some of the moose collision results, they look frightening. Here in Ohio the main such threat comes from deer, and strikes are very frequent.

And skunks - do you have the black-and-white skunks there? Talk about something that stinks double, rotting skunk.

I like Hunter S. Thompson's conjecture about why rabbits run out in front of cars: They get bored, start living on the edge, tryng their luck...

Cool

That really is bad luck!

At least if you had killed them you could have eaten them!
