Have you had a look to see what it says in the handbook. That's where I'd start

According to the handbook on MY96 turbo, there are 2 brake warning lights. One is for the handbrake only which should go out when h/b is released, the other is a warning for a brake problem, either pads, lines or fluid, it resembles an exclamation mark within a circle and is found at the top between the indicator lights.

My warning light is on most mornings and Subaru can't find a problem with the lines, pads, discs or fluid so I assume it's an electrical fault.

Perhaps the light is staying on due to a sticking handbrake ? Do you find that the h/b is stiffer in the mornings?

I'd ring Subaru tomorrow just in case.

Hope this helps.

Gash, that light at top of dash is not handbrake light! Handbrake lifgt is at bottom of dash and is a "P" within a circle.

This happened on my bird's micra, the handbrake light stayed on, and on my mate's Honda CRX, in both cases it was low brake fluid.

That would be my first port of call mate.

Cheers
