My lovely but not pratical bonnet scoop
#1
> a stretch of road back to my digs is really dusty and gets worse during the summer. i try going 2mph to reduce the amount of dust brought up by the wheels but basically the stuff just goes all over the show and i'm sure the massive hole in the bonnet scoop of my brand new STi is no exception.
I'm concerned that prolonged exposure will cause some damage in the engine. Does this mean I have to clean the engine often or check it for dust?

Your air filter will be the main concern, just inspect it at regular intervals, eg weekly then monthly as required and of course change more frequently than the service frequency states. Everything else should be OK.....the visual appearance would be more worrying. I would be cleaning it every 5 minutes with all that dust!!! (bodywork, not engine)

slacker,
Your bonnet scoop just channels air across the intercooler and then out under the car. None of that air is taken in by anything.
Air for the engine is taken from the very front drivers side of the car.
From time to time just check your intercooler for dead insects and leaves etc that may be sitting on top, becarefull not to bend the delicate blades on the intercooler.
On an sti8 you have to check the intercooler for birds, cats, dogs and small children because of the size of the scoop.
